My son was accepted and applied about a week before the deadline. He received an email saying his application was referred to the Honors College but no indication that he actually received honors. I’m guessing that notification comes later. For 2 other colleges that he was accepted to the honors notification came by letter a week or two after his acceptance.
@Milva634 From VT Admissions on Twitter…
I wanted to be certain, as my son would not consider any major other than Engineering - I called Admissions and she said it would state on the decision if it was for anything other than the first choice major. She also said that all of the decisions they sent out yesterday were for first choice majors (which does not mean that the March decisions are not for first choice majors- I did not ask that).
Where can I find the decision? Link please?
@eaglemom2014 Just to reiterate how difficult it is to predict admission decisions…my son was admitted to NCSU engineering EA in 2013 from OOS. VT (instate) accepted him for his 2nd choice major in the 2nd round of decisions. After he appealed due to incorrect 1st semester senior year grades, they moved him to the engineering wait list but did not take anyone from the waitlists that year. Admissions is definitely an art, not a science! In the end, he just couldn’t fall in love with NCSU, liked the area but not the U. Very happy at VT though. Good luck!
Congrats to all who received their admittance notices!
VT Engineering is increasingly difficult to get into and the admittance stats will be going up again this year. But for those who were not notified on the Feb. 20 first round for their selected majors, don’t give up hope. Some applicants do get admitted to Engineering in the second round in March.
For those applicants who meet the criteria for admission to the Honors College, according to the school, you will receive a separate Honors College decision notification soon.
@STEM2017 I don’t see that post anywhere? Can you give me a link that takes me to that post?
BTW, I printed the VT Honors College information packet from the link in my son’s email. It looks pretty complicated and requires a 3.6 GPA for the first two semesters.
@NJProParent What are the criteria for admission into the honors college?
@HardOREasy It’s from VT Admissions on Twitter. Their name is @FollowMeToVT on Twitter. It was posted about 8:30 et today.
@nasteeR, all applications are automatically reviewed by the Honors College staff for consideration. The Fall 2015 class had an average GPA of 4.24 (assume 5.0 scale) and and average SAT math/verbal of 1353.
The Honors College says it takes a holistic approach in considering the applicant: “experiences … quality of engagement over sheer quantity, self-awareness and reflection on involvement, and authenticity.”
second round decisions will include additional admissions to first choice major: “All decisions to be released today have been posted. The remaining decisions (incl. addtl offers into 1st choice major) will be posted 3/17” per Twitter FollowMeToVT
Yeah, that’s what I got from my GC as well. Second round DOES include 1st major consideration as well, not just 2nd major.
So don’t get discouraged people if you haven’t received the decision yet.
Got in engineering, first choice major
haven’t been notified yet about the honors college (does that mean I didn’t make it ?)
SAT: 1400/1600 (760 in maths)
GPA: 3.83/4.00
I seem to have made the academic cut off according to one of the posts in this thread (maybe I fell short on the ECs)
please do get back to me about the honors college
and a big congratulations to all my fellow students admitted
Congrats. Honors College notification is later.
@JustGraduate Yeah I got into NCSU Engineering EA OOS this year which is my second choice. I loved the campus and it’s a very nice program. Didn’t hear back for first round so it looks like I’ll be headin’ to NC. I’m excited either way though.
Just to clarify, those applicants who are being considered for the Honors College have a notification already posted on their portal.
@celtic12 I was saying I didn’t get a decision but got the honors college email saying my app was sent to the honors college. Also to all those who have been worried like me about the 1st round being 1st choice majors, they said on twitter this morning that second round would also have first choice majors.
@barb2021 Are you asking or telling? If you are telling, are you certain?
@STEM2017 I can only speak for my son’s application…he received an email about a month ago saying it had been sent to the honors college for review, and his portal says “Application to Honors College”. Perhaps they are still informing people though. Surprising that some engineering students who aren’t being considered for the honors college have been offered acceptance and some whose applications were sent to honors have not yet been offered admission.
