VA Tech vs. GTech vs. UVa [Chemical] Engineering

Between those three schools, which would be best for chemical engineering? (*At this point I don’t think I’m too into mechanical/electrical engineering, I’m more interested in chemical and perhaps biomedical engineering)

Right now I’m leaning more towards UVa, b/c I have a sibling who is UVa Class of 2016 and already have a decent idea of what the school is about. I don’t know too much about VA and GA Tech aside from their ranking as some of the better tech schools. Also, I’ll get in-state tuition for VA Tech and UVa, whereas the GA Tech out of state tuition looks a little pricey.

I’ve heard, especially in the past, that UVa’s engineering department didn’t live up to the UVa name and that both Techs are better. However, especially in the past few years, I’ve been told by alumni and others that UVa has improved drastically and is now one of the top schools for chemical and biomedical engineering, beating out the likes of GA and VA Tech.

Although academics is my #1 priority, I do value my social life greatly and would prefer a more popular/modern area as opposed to being in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for the help!

Anybody have any experience or opinions?

Considering you’re instate for VA, I’d choose UVa. Excellent school. GT might be better for engineering overall, but not worth the price difference in your case.
