How long are the breaks at Michigan?

Classes start right after Labor Day. Usually in October around exam time, you get a Monday and Tuesday off for "Fall Study Break". Whether or not this is actually a break depends on whether your professors see this as an actual break, or free time to do large projects/study for exams that Wednesday.

Before Thanksgiving, classes go right up until Wednesday, though many professors cancel class that day, or cover optional material that won't be on any exam. Then things start up the next Monday.

For winter break, it depends on when your last exam is. The time between the last day of exams until classes start up again is about 2 weeks, though a large majority of people finish exams before that.

In the Winter term, you get a Monday off for MLK day, and then a week off for spring break in late February/early March. Finals end later in April, so you have a relatively long summer compared to most people.
