Hey everyone, I was just thinking: don't we have to get a bunch of shots and vaccinations before college? I don't remember reading that anywhere. Did I miss it, or does Columbia not do that? I think I have most of them from a summer program in 2003, but I'd like to know for sure.

You have to be able to prove to Columbia (by a doctor's lab tests or equivalent) that you are immune to measles, mumps, and rubella. New York State also wants you to consider getting a vaccine for meningococcal meningitis (you're not required to get it, but you must inform Columbia of your decision)

Did we get a form for that; or is that something we do once we get to campus?

There is a form for the MMR that Columbia sent a while ago -- your doctor just has to sign it and verify that you've received those vaccinations.

If you want to get the Meningitis shot, you can do that once you get on campus for $65 or just get it from your primary care doctor. There was a website [sorry, i dont remember, but maybe someone else does] where you had to tell Columbia whether or not you were going to recieve the shot. There are no forms for this shot, if you agree to get it, then you get it and that's it.

The website's at https://ssol.columbia.edu/ssv/crt/menIntro.html

Thanks a lot.

Yeah but is the Meningitis shot worth it? My mother is getting el cheapo on me complaining about the 65 dollar fee. If you think about it, would you rather cough of the $65 or don't and just watch what you are doing for the year? Or is the risk of catching it that high at CU?

I've never heard of a breakout of it at Columbia, but it's probably something worth protecting yourself against. $65 is cheap compared to what treatment might cost...

someone in John Jay contracted the milder form of menigitis late last year....it would def be in your best interest to get the shot.

thats just taking it way too far....its one thing to be money concious but not to the extent of endangering ur health.....

that said, I didnt get the Meningitis vaccine but not because i'm cheap, its because I didnt think the threat was worth it.

Which shots are mandatory before college entry?
What if I took a Heptitus B Shot in middle school? Is it okay, if I don't get it done again?
I need help.

all you need is MMR:

Who has to submit immunization documentation?
All students registered for six (6) or more credits have to submit proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.
