Vaccine at school

Mercersberg MIGHT be able to offer students the covid vaccine :raised_hands::raised_hands::raised_hands: . Have any other schools been able to offer this? St Andrews has not brought this up (for reference).

Lville has registered as a vaccine site, but no word on if/when they’ll get vaccine. They have also offered to get eligible students to vaccine appointments if/when the student has an appointment.

We’ve gotten some info from SAS, so it’s starting. Unfortunately, that kid is too young, so I’m in limbo still…

Really? That is welcome news but I haven’t heard this. Which schools?

If the parents schedule it, Cate will get the student to the appointment. Has to be a spot close to the school, though.

Right now only a few California counties are open to 16+, so the students have to qualify a different way. When it opens up in a couple of weeks, I am guessing there will be quite a rush.

They looked into being a vax cite, and apparently the requirements were too challenging.

@cityran , good luck with that! NJ is only opening to 55+ next week!

Personally, if I were running this, I would do everyone at colleges and schools (16+) simply because the logistics would be simple – so easy to go to them! But alas, I have yet to be consulted!

Thankfully PA has fast tracked its vaccine efforts and has come a long way in the past few weeks. The most recent announcement stated that all PA residents 16+ will be eligible to receive a vaccine as of April 19th. Of course for those of us with 16-17 year olds, the only approved vaccine is Pfizer right now. I am hoping that if the school can actually secure the vaccines, my 17 year old can receive both doses before the end of the school year. Unfortunately I think we all will still be waiting a while for approvals for vaccine use on kids under 16.

Yep. I have not been holding my breath for the school to get any. It’s a moot point for us anyway as kiddo is only 15. If she were 16, I’d consider flying her home to get vaccinated as our state is 16+ stating April 5th. For now I’m just hoping the 12-15 Pfizer is approved soon! My husband and I got our first dose yesterday, so at least our family is making some progress. And I love seeing that NJ, and many surrounding states, is at 25%+ coverage.

This article claims Pfizer 12-15 may be approved within weeks. Probably not fast enough for this school year, but hopefully all 12+ students can be fully vaccinated by the start of school in the fall.

Oh this is good news, thanks for sharing! It gives me even more hope that we can get closer to normal than I had thought for fall! :crossed_fingers:

I am surprised (and grateful) by the number of 16yo we know who are vaccinated, including our own. These kids are all lifeguards and/or work at daycare, swim lessons etc, but it’s something. I think NJ will be fully open for vaccination by the end of this month, and once they do that on a Nat’l level, I hope authorization for teens will follow shortly.

Our younger kids are on a waiting list to join a under 12 Pfizer trial. Our pediatrician said she has seen some 12-16 data and it looks great. Should be available by fall. The practice is more concerned about flu in the fall. They expect a whopper.

Unfortunately (fortunately?), DS is eligible in Mass due to comorbidity (that occurred while in BS). But at home (TX) anyone over 16 is now eligible.

Anyone 16+ in NH or CT can get vaccinated right now. I think that the random differences between states makes almost no sense. Especially, especially when the only people I know going out are 16-35 years old. The older people I know who are fully vaccinated still aren’t going out anyway.

The Head of School at Loomis Chaffee sent a letter to parents saying that the school is pursuing the possibility a vaccine clinic for students in the future, but it is dependent on state and local authorities and nothing is definite yet. And, the school will support students who have a vaccine appointments by providing transportation to students who are 18+.
