Vaio or Mac?

I see that there's a lot of mac users on this board. but im considering both for personal usage in college.. but i want to hear other's opinions first. which should i get?
in addition, what are some advantages/disadvantages of both?

Macbooks
Advantages:
Runs windows very well too.
Looks better
Mac OS X is more stable, and looks better
Better for work, better performance. The new ones come with penryn.
Disadvantages:
Can't think of many. Hmm
Oh yeah, you might need to carry an additional DVI adapter(i think) if you're gonna do presentations and all.

Vaio:
Advantages:
Looks good but not as good as a macbook
Sure, more compatible with XP but you can install one on a mac anyway. You don't really need to pay if you have friends. Get what i mean?
Disadvantages:
It's illegal to install a mac os x on a pc because to do that you need to edit the source code and what not. Although people do it(they call it hackintosh).
You don't have Mac OS X leopard :(

Macs is better value. You'll get the best of both worlds. And yeah don't worry too much. You can boot into both OSs. You have to press the apple key or something and choose which OS you want to boot into.

advantages

Vaio: Cost

Mac: Everything else

Don't get the VAIO, get an HP Pavilion, they're a lot cheaper. If money isn't a concern, get a Thinkpad, that will get you unmatched build quality (yes, even by Apple) and enterprise level support.

Though if you're getting a consumer Windoze laptop (i.e. not a business laptop like the Thinkpads), you'll want to make sure you can install XP over Vista. My laptop came with Vista and it was horrifyingly slow. With XP, it's blazing fast.

lol, agree with skatj.

well, they are both ridiculously overpriced.I can get a windows based laptop that has all the specs of a standard macbook pro(200 gig hdd,2 gigs ram,2.4 core 2 duo,and an 8600m) for $500 less.

Vaios just suck. you get a gig of ram and probably an integrated video card for $1,000.

I would head over to newegg.com and check out the laptops they have there.

Is that with a Merom or Penryn processor?

Does that include an LED Backlit screen or CCFL?

Can you bring it into a local store and get world class service by knowledgeable technicians? Something that's amazed me is seeing folks in suits walk into an Apple store and drop $2K to $5K for products that they walk out of the store with. I work with people that spend up to $20K for their systems. I've always been very impressed with how the store staff treats customers and it must work well as I've seen lots of business people in the Mac Stores. I guess they like the high level of customer service. For those that need an anecdote:

Both are more expensive than typical notebooks.

The difference is that the Mac is justifiably so ;)

VAIO is definatley a NO
it is a given that sony makes really bad notebooks

Is there anything actually good about the Vaio? If not I'll probably cross it off of my laptop options.

My friend has a Sony VAIO and it sucks cause its mad slow. If you want a windows computer go with a more trusted company like Dell or Leveno. Even HP might have a decent deal.

honestly, i would choose mac over vaio.
because 5 of my friends brought vaios and all of them had different problems.
internal system problems, wobbly computers (yes, it doesn't sit correctly), couldn't turn on....etc.

my mom is a manager at Acer, she said the design of the motherboard for vaio wasn't really good, which makes the system weak.

yeah, i would say you either buy an apple, acer, dell, HP.

but honestly speaking, i really VAIO's designs.

Vaio's aren't good computers but they look amazing...

I would get a mac over a vaio, but if you're looking at a PC look at another company besides Sony

Viaos suck. If you want to pay a premium for elegance, go with a Mac. The Mac isn't horribly unreliable and isn't insanely, insanely overpriced.

I thinks it is slightly overpriced compared to other brands...
