So... I'm the val of my school, and I'm supposed to give a speech. I really have no confidence in speaking. lol

To other people: what are you writing about, or if you were the val, what would you write about? I'm trying to make it humorous, with a funny theme. I'm generally pretty funny, but I just have no confidence in speaking.

Am I supposed to be contacted by the school regarding the speech? or Am I just supposed to write it and show them when I'm done...

If I were to write a speech, I would criticize my school of a lot of things.

The valedictorian speech - depends on the policy of your school. I guess it suppose to have a theme.

Write about good memories, your friends, teachers, the times you struggled and how these people helped you out. Write good things about the school (even if it it sucked). Crack a few jokes here and there so your audience won’t be bored). And hey, you’re the val & it’s senior year, who cares about public speaking at this point? You’ll do fine.

We normally have multiple vals, so they can make it inclusive and also talk about exactly what they care about. Make it sound like you.

Even if you direct it in such a way that it shows who you are, don’t talk about your friends or your teachers. Talk about experiences that the whole class had, things all of you remember.

Usually, the school does check out val speeches, but it’s a school to school thing. Show it to one of your counselors/the principal if you feel the need and you aren’t prompted to do so.
