Well, it's officially the last grading period at my school, and there is no way that 2 and 3 will catch, so it's def. time to start thinking about the old valedictory speech. Unfortunately for me, I have never attended a high school graduation, so I have no clue what to say beyond the oh-so--trite "thank yous" and "good lucks". Any other vals here who have speeches to write? What are you planning on speaking about?

maybe you could write about the future of the generation as a whole, you know all that crap that people talk about in low budget movies..

Or you could lambast the high school for its shortcomings, particularly if they are glaring ones with which much of the student body agrees. That would be a speech that if forcefully delivered would be remembered for a long time.

Nah, I wouldn't do that. The school is letting you speak. It's a privelege, not really a right. Dissing the school isn't really a good idea, given that.

The speech really isn't as hard to write as you might think. Turn off the computer (seriously, turn it off and step away), pull out a piece of paper and start jotting down ideas. My advice is to find a nice quote or two and build your speech around them. Try to incorporate the entire senior class, but be specific. Do NOT make it about you.

Make sure to stress that I'M (your) the Valedictorian and that THEY are all in the audience. Guess the reference. Quick, quick. If someone gets the reference correct, they will be my hero.

someone did the dissing of the school thing last year somewhere in america. it was temp in the news.

yeah let them know you are better than they are and the school was not good enough for you, but i need to know if anyone knows my last reference. i NEED NEED NEED to know.

you should definitely just break into a song at the podium, like all of a sudden start singing "the wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round!" while doing some crazy dance moves. then go sit down. you will be remembered forever. :)
haha no seriously, just think of one specific aspect of your high school life and focus on that. don't try to cover too much. it's better to bring one point across throughout your speech.

my favorite valedictorian speach was at my brother's graduation last year. there were 2 tied at the top so both gave speeches. the girl had the boringest speech i've ever heard. the whole "we are the future so lets do our best" speech. the guy got up there and talked about how he had know idea what to write about. so he typed "valedictorian" into google and it gave him all these articles and studies that showed that valedictorians have a greater chance at failing in their future because they've already reached the top. it was so funny. he talked about how since he's already peaked that he should at least make his speech memorable because he's never going to do anything of any significance ever again. it was a great speech

logistics, did you get banned and is "quizquick" your new name?

Whatever you do... please please do not try to be cool.

I remember at my brother's graduation, these girls used "so fresh and so clean clean" somewhere in their speech and the rest of whatever they said was filled with hiphop/rap lyrics interspersed into a "We are the future" type essay. It was awful...

At my school's rival private school, the salutatorian talked in his speech that more important than intellect and ability was ethics. He then proceeded to rip the valedictorian apart accusing him of vheating in ever class and saying thats the only reason he got where he did. He said that he'd rather be 2nd and do it ethically that be 1st and be a liar. It was by far the most interesting graduation speech Ive ever heard of.

Ouch, that's harsh...

Yeah, and the sal spoke first, so the val apparently came up all flustered and had a hard time speaking.

That would have been fun to watch.

ehh i have no chance of being val. if only i went to an easier school :( im kind of really competitive. lol.

yea i have to speak too... the first three in our class speak, with the val speaking last... number 2 and 3 are assigned topics that they must must must speak about and the val gets to do whatever he/she wants to... i kind of wish they would just give me a topic too...

Gahh... I'm having so much trouble thinking of things... it's sooo easy to be cliche when it comes to stuff like this...

This thread is pretty helpful, though...
