Valedictorian and graduation?

I am the valedictorian of my graduating class, and therefore, I have to make a speech at graduation. However, I have family related reasons on why I can't go to graduation( also I Don't want to go).
What should I do?
Should I talk to my school's principal in advance and explain to him why I can't go?
What if I just don't show up, without tell anyone?

I think you should definitely tell your principal; it’d be nice to let them prepare for that in advance. I would imagine that they would find out anyways though, because they probably have to read your speech beforehand or something. That’s what they do at my school anyways.

Nah, keep it a secret and actively pretend to be planning on delivering a speech. You might even want to type up a fake speech for your principal to review. Sure, it’ll ruin graduation for everyone else and make you look like a rude, callous flake, but on the upside you won’t have to have any awkward conversations with those people again, especially if you’re applying to out-of-state colleges or planning to move away from the area.

In all seriousness – tell your principal. Don’t be a tool.

Put yourself on the other side of the fence. How would you feel if someone had made a commitment to you and failed to show up.

You definitely cannot just ditch graduation without telling anyone. I don’t know how it is for your school, but for our school they are totally OCD and have a ton of practices and the speech givers work with the speech/debate coach at our school so that they memorize their speeches and give them well and they would completely panic if you didn’t show without them knowing beforehand.

:/

I can’t believe you would even THINK to do that to your classmates…

i feel the same way, lol
i see no point in going to graduation. i see no reason to celebrate the end of hs. going off to college should be the real celebration. i didn’t get much out of high school or grades k-8

Yeah, I should tell my principal a month or two ahead.
Thanks!

The Valedictorian last year didn’t show up at our school’s graduation. He said it was a waste of time and his class was worthless. Not exactly a good way to go out :[

pigs at sea! exactly how i feel! high school was a four year waste of my time!

Why would you even think about not telling anyone. It’s always better to prepare people for the worst and then actually show up, instead of letting others down.

I’ll let my school know. High school really is a waste of time. Most of the kids at my school are high middle class white kids who know nothing except getting drunk and laid.
They all have bad livers and AIDS!!!
Hahahahahaha!!!
