Even among valedictorians, he's a superstar

Like many teens, 17-year-old Morgan Park High School senior Langston Wesley is into rap music. Like many his age, this African-American teen also likes sports. He's on the varsity baseball team. Perhaps a little more extraordinary, he's on the chess team, too.

But here's where he really bucks the commonplace: he's the first black male valedictorian in the 90-year history of Morgan Park High....

I really do like stories like this. Langston sounds like a terrific young man.

But I'm also a little confused. Isn't he going to Stanford? Then why is this story posted on the Harvard board and not the Stanford board? The article doesn't even mention Harvard. What am I missing?

Cosar, The OP was trying to take revenge for the countless times Byerly did it in other school's threads. Still it is pointless. I don't care for this guy at all nor do I care for any other random student admitted to HYPMS.

When I have posted stories from local papers about interesting students admitted to Harvard, it has been on the Harvard site, and not elsewhere.

It is odd that the OP did not post this interesting link on the Stanford site, since the kid seems to have been admitted to Stanford, and there is nothing to indicate that he even applied to Harvard.

Gee, a black valedictorian at a 93.3% black school. STOP THE PRESSES. Whats amazing is that at a school thats 93.3% black, there hasn't been a single black valedictorian in 90 years.

I'm sorry if this seems provocative, but lets face the facts people. How much lower do we need to set the bar just because someone's skin color is different. Geez.

I think the article said there hadn't been a single black, MALE valedictorian in 90 years. That certainly suggests there have been black female valedictorians.
