This pretty much sums it up; I, as well as several other well qualified students were denied admission while other people who had inferior stats across the board were accepted. I just don’t get it and it really frustrates me. I thought that college decisions should be based on merit…

“inferior”… see, maybe that’s why Davis decided to refuse admission…
just kidding. Partially. But Davis looks to balance their community, just like the other colleges and universities.

They generally want a well-rounded person, not just someone with a high GPA. In fact, someone with a 3.0 GPA has as much right to get into UCD as someone with a 4.0 GPA. It also depends on your major–UC Davis admits by major, and if both your 1st and 2nd major are highly impacted, there’s a higher chance you may not get in, whereas someone majoring in a non-impacted major is more likely to get in, as long as their GPA is above the minimum GPA requirement.

And of course, for transfer students, the overall average GPA of those who were accepted is generally much lower than the freshmen’s overall average GPA.

something similar happened to me as well i got into ucd while the president of the robotics club who has the same gpa and is involved in a bunch of other activities got waitlisted

That is really bad. I also have very excellent stats but still got rejected from UCSD and waitlisted from UC Davis… :(:(:(:(:(:(

The admissions process is really unpredictable. Even when applying to your local state school, you can’t completely expect anything. From your language, I figure that you have no interest in UC Davis anyways. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your time someplace that is “better” for you anyways.

Best of luck.

UC’s are primarily stats based schools. How can a valedictorian not get in to UC Davis? What were their stats?

the valedictorian didn’t get in??? The only reason could be that they knew that he/she would end up going somewhere better so didn’t bother admitting them…

Didn’t you get admitted ELC?
