Valid Grounds for Appeal at Berkeley

Hello,

This is my first time posting on here so I apologize if this thread is misplaced. I was recently rejected from Berkeley and would like to appeal. I wanted to know whether one of my main reasons for appealing is valid or if it will be dismissed.

I just realized I made a mistake regarding my major at Berkeley. I am not sure how exactly this happened, but was most likely an accident. I am a prospective Computer Science major, but have no interest in Engineering and am interested in a more broad education, not one in engineering. Looking here (<a href="http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_view_req?p_dept_cd=COMSCLS">http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_view_req?p_dept_cd=COMSCLS</a>) I can see the L&S path would be far more relevant to my interests, and EECS would actually not fit me well at all.

However, after reviewing my application online today, I realized my major was listed as "Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences" -- not the one at L&S. I realize CS at L&S is easier to get into than at EECS (although I'm not sure by how much), and as I mentioned before, I would fit better at L&S.

My question is whether selecting the wrong major (making a mistake in my application) is a valid reason to appeal my rejection. In addition to this reason, I can also provide new developments for my application.

My Stats:
SAT: M:800 | CR: 800 | W: 730
ACT: 35
SAT Math 2: 720 | SAT Bio: 770
GPA: 4.76
+extracurriculars

Thank you very much.

APPEAL! Definitely appeal for a different major and possibly note the mistake. Don’t be scared, but appeal because honestly my counselor’s daughter appealed too and she got into Cal. Moreover, you have really good stats and definitely still stand a chance. Don’t freak out and pour your heart out which will definitely help you :D.

You can appeal for whatever reason you want, you’ve got nothing to lose so just go for it.

This would definitely be valid grounds for an appeal, because you are indicating that you intended to apply the L&S route, but somehow, through possible technical error, you ended up applying to the College of Engineering, which has a totally different, and much smaller class space available for incoming freshmen.
