Validating English

I've looked on the USNA website and I've seen what they have about validating english. My question is should I bring a portfolio of all my english work ( I took AP English as a college course) in case I didn't get a 5 on the AP test? The portfolio contains all our papers and rubrics, probably about 15-20 papers including 5 or more with 6 plus pages. Should I leave it home and have my parents sent it to me in the case I didn't get a 5 on the AP test? Also, when will we be notified that we have validated a course?

theofleury993,
Leave the portfolio at home. Even if you happened to end up in "Trucker English," and your professor realized by the quality of your work that you clearly didn't belong in that class, you would probably be put in a more advanced class. In spite of the validation tests, I also understand that there is some fine tuning after the academic year commences. USNA is a small institution and they are very good at what they do.

Good Luck!

you will be taking an english placement test within the first week of plebe summer, and at the end of it will be an extra section to complete if you wish to validate a semester of english. for '09 it was analyzing a poem. i believe you can only validate HE111, which is the first course out of the two the academy says you need in english. i validated and took HE112V, which is the second semester's course at an accelerated pace. its a sweet deal because the validator's class is actually easier because they figure you already know how to write and most of those in the class are english (or humanities) majors anyways. you spend most of the class having esoteric but thoroughly enjoyable discussions about life and the academy and its a class you actually look forward to.
