"Validating" Service/Extracurriculars...

Well, I've done a whole lot of community service through my church and a local retirement home...

Thing is, I never bothered to get any official signed documents or something... I just go on mission trips with the Youth (lots of fun), and call Bingo twice each week for the old ladies...

However, I know all the people well that are in charge of the respective places... So when I put down the service or something on my app, can I just put a little sidenote like "Call XXX at ###-#### for confirmation" or something, in case a college wants to audit my application for truthfulness?

You don’t need to put any contact information. Just estimate (as closely as possible) the hours you have complete and/or hours per week you put in, the duration of each service, and your role. You don’t need any official documents or signatures. You could get a recommendation letter from one of your leaders or write about the experience if you want to, but you’re in no way required to. College go by the honour system, and that when you sign off saying everything on the app is true you’re being honest. College can’t go around proving every EC on tens of thousands of people’s apps.

Unless, of course, you’re applying to UCs. Then do get ready for their random checks.
