Validating is not good... Ur goin to busy as it is. The best thing to do is to just take whats required. Ull be goin 100 miles an hour the less u have to worry about the better. U just need to get through ur first year then ull be set...

I don't agree with Huffalump at all. Try to validate--it'll open up the option of double-majoring and minoring to you. Plus, it's always good to get out of Chem or History!

Compare to the AP, that'll be the best way to look at it. I have heard of that approach many times, that take as easy classes as you can cause its going to be one hell of a ride. But, like marines4me said it opens up options for you wouldn't normally have. Like in my case I want to take a semester abroad in China, and to do that I really NEED to take my foreign language classes plebe year thus I need to validate at least one class.

The interesting part is when I took Chem AP, I did terrible in the class, barely keeping a B, and then got a 3 on the exam...psh. (Not because it was hard but just cause I took it very easy my Junior year and concentrated on other things.............) Anyway in the last couple weeks I have learned about half of general chem from scratch on my own just for this test. So I hope and pray I validate this class, I mean I know at this point I would have gotten a 5 with what I know now.

"Easy" classes are a relative term. Stuff at West Point isn't THAT hard, there's just a lot of work. The classes that are good to validate out of (especially history) will save you a lot of that work, and put you closer to getting into your major. People's grades skyrocket as soon as they get into their major. Trust me, try to get out of stuff, especially Chem and History. And if you can, take advance Psych. You can't validate out of PL (psych), but you can take advanced. That will save you a lot of work, and put you in a class meant for group discussion. I'm EXTREMELY glad I took the advanced class (not to mention that the advanced class has a higher overall grade than the normal class by 10 points)

If you can challenge yourself, and willing to take the challenge, go for it. I know I am. Don't let someone else tell you that you can't do it, decide for yourself.
