It's just really degrading to be like "Oh, you Hispanic people aren't that smart...we guess we'll let one of you sit on stage as retribution for that little genetic/ethnic mishap."

I told the principal I didn't want to, but since I'm going to be up there anyway...

No! That's the thing. They just assume that the val and sal will be Asian or white, which is true every year, but still. This year our val is Bulgarian and our sal is Indian, so we will have a nice range of ethnic diversity up there ;).

It's actually funny, because of the student body officers, one is African-American, one is Hispanic (me!!), one is Asian (Chinese), and one is white. We love being a rainbow of leadership.

lol, your student body officers are pretty much as diverse as my whole school. For real, there are probably less than 25 non-white caucasian people at my school.

Haha I think it's funny when somebody comments on the original post after the conversation has digressed so much. I didn't even know what JoeBob was talking about until I remembered which thread we were on.

I know what you must feel like j07, I hate stereotypes, as well. ppl always assume that I'm into sciences just because of my ethnicity. But I guess you can at least profit from AA, which in a way compensates for your school's rude policies. Still, you should leave behind a legacy and change the regulations of your school, ^^. It would also look good on your CV, haha.

I'd feel a bit shamed if I were in your position, I agree, it's rude of your school to do that and it undermines your true accomplishments. Too bad you weren't rank 1 because then you could show that the "smartest hispanic" is also the top student.
