Valuables in a dorm room

This goes for someone like Chuy or anyone with experience in dorm life. How does one keep valuables safe in a dorm room. Back in my days we had no valuables..LOL..that BW TV set wasn't much. These days students have a lot more "gadgets" to deal with..cell phone, i-phones,laptops,i-touch,cameras etc etc..Do a lot of students get a safe or rent one? If no safe what do you do?

As far as cameras, cellphones, iPods and other small electronics (the ones that are probably the most likely to be stolen because of ease) I just kept them in a pocket or in a drawer and never had a problem. Most laptops have a slot for a laptop lock that you can loop around your bed frame; a tad annoying to take on and off and the lock would be cut pretty easily by some bolt cutters, but it's one preventative measure you can take.

The pretty vast majority of stuff that gets stolen is taken out of rooms where the door was left unlocked while both people were either out of the room or stolen. So ALWAYS. ALWAYS ALWAYS. Lock your door when you're gone. Bathroom, shower, dinner, lounge, some other guys room for a couple minutes, lock your door.

My freshman year my roommate had a really big lockbox that we used as a TV stand. He put his checkbook and other papers in there, so that's an idea. As far as the little stuff goes, though, if you're intelligent about keeping your door locked and who you let in there even when you're there it shouldn't bea problem.

Im sure you've been getting advertisements left and right, but I noticed this one. Its and electronic safe, for $150. Its a little bit of money, but I'm sure your iPod, cell phone, checkbook, etc. are valued at slightly higher.

The safe is third from the bottom.

theres some other neat stuff you might lke there too. The safe says the laptop will fit in there and can be charged too. Hope this helps.

That seems sort of like overkill but I guess if you're really worried about somebody taking your stuff while you're gone it'd be worth the money.

It does, but I know for some people it gives them a little relief. I know Tech isn't known for its theft, but it happens. I don't feel I need one, but back home I would have wanted one, San Diego just gives people that kind of vibe I guess.

Another option (vs. the safe) get into the Core of Cadets, they aren't perfect, but they have to abide by the Honor systems and the pylons. There are very few theives there (according to Maj Mariger)... Just a thought.

Going into the CoC just because you're afraid someone will take your stuff seems a bit like overkill too, haha.

lol, just a little. That was mostly me advertising the Core...
