I will be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the fall to study aerospace engineering, and I have the option to study Aviation Maintenance Science as a minor (https://catalog.erau.edu/daytona-beach/minors/aviation-maintenance-science-powerplant/) which will lead to my certification as an FAA powerplant mechanic. How valuable would this be after I graduate? Could this give me an edge resume-wise, or would it just be redundant? I have option to get a minor in computational mathematics as well (https://catalog.erau.edu/daytona-beach/minors/computational-mathematics/), so which one should I choose for better job opportunities?
If you want to be a mechanic yeah it will help. Otherwise no it won’t. Minors aren’t worth the paper they are printed on. What matters is the skills you learn. And coding is typically more useful for an aero e. If you get a trdiatiknal aero e job you will not be doing aircraft makntenenace.
