Hey everyone,
I recently acquired a software internship (couldn't get a legit one because I'm taking courses at a local college during the middle of the day). However, the internship is in a field I most likely plan not on majoring in, marketing. I am going to be a senior in high school next year and plan on majoring in either economics or computer science, but unfortunately as a high schooler, not many internships are available in those fields. It took me quite some time to find this one internship, but if I apply for colleges in a different field than marketing, will the internship just be ignored?
Thanks.

Marketing is relevant to many things!!! It involves understanding what consumers want, communicating benefits, analyzing and responding to markets. Yes … Important concepts for Econ and computer science. Are you working with people? Convincing people? Talking to people? All relevant

No, it will not just be ignored.

Colleges and universities know something very important about incoming students that the students don’t seem to know about themselves: they know that at least half of incoming students who graduate will wind up with degrees in subjects other than the ones they planned on when they entered. And for this reason, most colleges and universities will evaluate you as a prospective undergraduate, and not as a prospective economist or computer guru.

Thanks a lot. Anyone else have any idea?

Might it be looked more down on because its a software (online) internship?

It depends on what you’ll be doing.

I’m a computer engineering and economics double major, working at an investment firm as an intern, except I’m 4 years ahead of you as a rising college senior. Also, I’m specifically in the marketing division. My profile is pretty similar to yours lol.

I’m working on a project requiring a hybrid knowledge of both my majors. If you’ll actually be doing legitimate work, instead of being paid to sit around, the knowledge you will gain will be very beneficial and will look nice. Also, I don’t think many applying high school seniors have technical internships under their belt. Most have jobs at Wal-Mart or Target as experience.

Well its an unpaid internship in which I help market the service by creating promotional videos and audios and stuff like that. I have to help develop marketing strategies and actually implement them and make them. Is that good? Or too laidback?
