value of interviews

Since interview is required at Georgetown, I was wondering how are interviews evaluated. Do they play a big factor in admission?

As March approaches, I start to get all anxious again!

I have heard that interviews at Gtown are considered more in the admissions decision than at most other schools. That being said, they cannot hurt you unless you make it clear that you do not want to go there. They can, however, be the deciding factor between two students with similar academic and extracurricular records.

It its interesting you ask that, because the Head of Admission at my High School used to be an Admissions Officer in Georgtown..

According to him, he and almost every other admission officer get so little from it that they usually don't care about it at all. He said that they get a paper with a 1-10 scale rating of the applicant from the interviewer and then get a short analysis (they have no actualy contact with the interviewer). He said 95% of the time, its either and 8 or a 9, or even occasionally a 10. Too them, according to him, this makes all of them a completel non-factor in decision. He said, the only time it changed his decision was in those rare occasions that somebody got a very low score, but that rarely happens, and even then, some of those are admitted as well.

I hope I could be of some help...

haha thats great and comforting news

Apparently PART I of my app got lost in the mail room, so they didnt start a file on me until they notified me of the problem and I sent in a duplicate about 1.5 weeks ago. So they said I'm not getting an interview, but that it shouldn't be a problem

that's so funny considering how much they play up the interview on the website...
ah, insider information - what a joy!
:)

thank to all of you who posted!
my interviewer interviewed four students back to back. Although I was the first one to be interviewed, he gave me 30 min exact(not 30 min and 1 sec). he was very serious and i didnt get the impression that we had a good conversation.

My interview went extremely well. I REALLY hope that it matters.

mine went well too, so i definitely want it to help my not-so-great stats. my interviewer had back to back interviews too (me being first), but I didn't know that so we just kept talking on and on, though I did see her glimpse over to the other part of the shop a couple of times. she didn't cut me off though, so that was good.

what kinda questions did u guys get asked? im curious as to what gu is lookin for and if u guys got similar questions.

My interviewers questions seemed to be pretty standard:

Why Georgetown?
Where else are you applying?
What kind of extracurriculars do you do?

etc

i called today; couldnt get an interview. an admissions officer assured me that it wont be counted against me, and that many have also complained about the problem of getting an interview this year.

i also hope it counts a LOT--i think my interview is one of the best things about my app, it went really well.

maybe it'll make up for my not-so-stellar grades (just a bit.) but that's probably wishful thinking.

thats reassuring news stonecold
