I sent out my Midyear Report the middle of last week. How much weight is given to the Midyear Report? Can it make or break an applicant? Is it true that Yale has been making decisions thus far sans the midyear report?

I'm not sure Yale has started its committee meetings yet, but if they have, they committee would have only recently convened. With all those applications, the admissions officers needs plenty of time to read before the committee convenes. In other words, aside from people who got likely letters, they have not been make decisions without midyear reports.

A midyear report can absolutely make or break an applicant. If you're getting your lowest grades ever, this is a red flag for admissions. If you've got a 4.0 in your toughest classes ever, that's nothing but good. My understanding is that your first semester senior year grades are, along with junior year grades, are the most important.

Previous to 7th semester, I had had two Bs (Both in Precalc). 7th semester, I received a B in AP Chem and a C in AP Calc. They were both on the cusp of an A and a B respectively. Since my school doesn't assign + or - to a grade, my counselor described what I described above. I had 5 As in all my other courses.

I'm hoping her explanation will help a little bit. It was not because I was lazy or had senioritis. Science and Math are just not my thing. Oh well, we will know March 31st!!

AdmissionsAddict: Your insight on the Yale forum has proven invaluable! Thank you (indirectly) for helping me :)

On another note, I do have a (direct!) question for you: my guidance counselor purportedly sent out Midyear Reports last Friday, but we've had break this week and none of my application statuses indicate that colleges have received my Midyear Report. Is this something that could hurt my application, or should I not worry about it?
Thanks a lot :)

Chandlerbing, so many applicants do not see that on their app status when they log in.
I do not think it is a problem. I am worried though, don't get me wrong.

Does the status check page on Yale actually have a box for the midyear report? I actually haven't seen this on the pages of any of the colleges I applied to, despite getting emails indicating that my application has been completed.
