Value of USMMA Appointment

Our son's high school is requesting that he submit a dollar amount of the value of his appoiontment to USMMA. They are listing the scholarships earned in the high school graduation program. With some of the other academies, I have seen approximate dollar values placed on an appointment, but I have not seen that with Kings Point. Does anyone have any suggestion what figure we should submit?

I know there is a value floating around out there somewhere, I think around 280,000, but what I think you should do is submit some exorbitant value and see if they go with it  Maybe send in a value of something like 2 million, ha.

Hopefully someone with recent experience will give you the most recent value.

I think the value is the same as the other Service Academies I have heard anywhere from 200,000 - 400,000. However can anyone put a value of the service to our country and the possible ultimate price these men and women may have to pay?

It’s been really hard to nail this number down. Our Senator said $300,000 and the Academy said $180,000. I took the Academy’s budget of $60 million and divided it by approximately 1000 students and arrived at $240,000 over 4 years which, conveniently, was half way between $180,000 and $300,000

According to the script we will use for our DS senior award ceremony, sent by the USMMA admissions office, “An appointment to the Academy is the equivalent of a scholarship worth approxiamately $205,000 over the 4-year period”.

The current estimate given to the the seniors about how much they will owe if they do not complete their service obligation is: $213,498.

Remember, this goes up every year due to various reasons, but when I was a plebe, I remember it being around $180,000.

In any case, be prepared for an audible gasp from the audience when the number is announced.

When our Congressman present my son and his classmate their appointments he said they were each valued at $250,000. There was an audible gasp from the audience and when the principal announce that was a total of $500,000 in scholarship value for these two alone and the school as a whole got $2.1 million there was a standing ovation.
