I apologize if my question overlaps with many other threads. I ask because the answers to these often repeated questions are different based on the individual's situation.

I just transferred to BYU as a junior. While I am not certain about my career aspirations, I'm planning for an MBA. I feel I have a good understanding of the admissions criteria for top MBA programs and recognize that work experience after my undergraduate degree is probably the most important factor.

That being said, I'm considering majoring in accounting or economics (I know they are two different animals, but I like them both). Which would likely lead to more impressive/marketable work experience upon graduation???

I have a 4.0 GPA and I realize that BYU is always rated in the top 3 in accounting and that many graduates get jobs with Big 4 firms. Is that the kind of ideal work experience you're looking for if you're planning on getting an MBA? I don't think BYU's economics program is that big of a deal, but would a middle of the road econ program lead to better work experience?

Thank you in advance for your replies. I apologize for the long and drawn out question, but I hope it clears up any confusion.

Also, would you major in accounting if you didn't really want to be an accountant? For instance, I'm considering using my accounting education as a platform to jump to a more lucrative and enjoyable career in finance. How easy would that be? How smart of a plan is it? Thanks a ton!
