Vancouver Film School Acting for Film and TV

What exactly is this? Is this just training or an actual program? I saw this on CC and then just clicked on it. Vancouver Film School - Acting for Film & Television

I actually have heard good things about Vancouver Film School for film, but would this be a good program to do after you graduate college or to take a year off and do this? Thanks!

I have a friend who is a very well-known actor in the Vancouver area – he’s done a lot of film and TV. I’ll ask him what he knows about this program.

Ok thanks onstage, I’m just very curious to know about this program.

Here is a quote from my Vancouver friend. He is a well-known actor in the area, having worked extensively in Film and Television, and seems quite familiar with the school:

“They are legit but they are a profit-making business and very, very expensive … the quality of the education one purchases there is in direct relation to the quality of the instructor in your chosen field of study … and they (the instructors) change rather often … so when folks ask my opinion about the place, I ask who they will be studying with … some would say that the quality of teaching at other Vancouver institutions (Langara College, for example) would be a higher standard of teaching for about one quarter the cost … check Studio 58 (the Langara Theatre program) or their three year old Film and Television program … one intensive year in acting, directing or writing … as many of the instructors at Vancouver film School are on contract rather than staff, one might also study with them in other venues … the make-up program is world-class as far as instructors and facilities go …”

Hope that’s helpful!

Thanks onstage is well helpful for sure! It seems like Studio 58 is a better program in Vancouver, I’ll check it out.

It seems like it is 3 years and not 1 year: [Langara College | Creative & Applied Arts | Theatre Arts](<a href=“Langara. Programs & Courses: Theatre Arts at Studio 58”>Langara. Programs & Courses: Theatre Arts at Studio 58)

It also seems they want people who are at least 19.

Also, would you say this is like a BFA or MFA but just in Canada? Thanks!

I’m guessing that’s correct, but don’t have any further info about it. You could probably check with the school itself to answer that question.

It’s fine. I just didn’t see that one year program. But thanks for your help!

One thing to keep in mind. Schools in Canada with the college designation do not usually grant degrees. These are almost always diploma granting institutions. Universities grant degrees in Canada. Sometimes colleges and universities offer joint programs but your degree will be from the university. This isn’t to say that there aren’t some excellent college programs in Canada, there are, but a college here is not the same as a college in the U.S. That’s why Canadians refer to post-secondary academic education as “going to university”.

Yeah I think that going to Canada for school is a bad idea now, lol.

There are many terrific universities in Canada, that are every bit as good as American ones, and at a fraction of the cost of U.S. schools. Whether or not there is one that is going to fit your very specific parameters is another question. :)

Well I originally thought that the Vancouver Film School was just training and not a degree program. That is why I was interested, but I think I’ll stick to US schools.
