@beebo12 Am guessing you’re not old enough to have an “SD” who applied to “Vandy.” Or maybe just not mature enough? Have fun on some other website.
@beebo12 ummm… more than sure that things don’t work that way
@jl2800 Vanderbilt did not accept my step daughter. She was outright rejected. But I read on another message board that several people who were denied admission at Duke decided to ignore the rejections. When they arrived on campus on move-in day they were apparently approached by campus police, who politely asked them to leave. the students said something along the lines of “i’m sorry, officer, there must be some sort of mistake … i sent in my deposit and as you can see, we drove all the way here from Boston so we must stay. for four years.” The campus police reported them to the admissions office the following day and made a notation that the students were very persistent (in an impressive kind of way) and wouldn’t take no for answer (also in an impressive kind of way). according to the post, the students were admitted on a post-hoc, de facto basis because they showed a great deal of initiative and self-confidence by ignoring the so-called “rejection” letter.
@beebo12 sounds more like a stalker situation. I can’t imagine that really happening. I would highly suggest your SD does not do that.
I do not know that is true or not. If that is the case, Harvard would be flooded with people who want to get in. Also, if these people did not pay deposit and lying about this, any school would not accept them. There are thousands of qualified students who did not get in. This type of behavior sounds like civil disobedience to me. I can not believe that Duke actually admit them based on they persistence. Anybody can provide any proof that this actually happened? If so, news outlet would not keep quiet…
@beebo12 how about moving on?
i agree that it sounds far-fetched and reflects a level of disobedience that is not consistent with social norms, particularly for a university such as Duke, which prides itself on it’s southern values (for example, using silverware properly when dining out and not using a salad fork when you should be using a dinner fork, which is typically the middle fork - assuming there is no dessert fork). then again, Duke students are known for their stick-to-itiveness so i there may be a grain of truth to the story.
I’m not sure why I’m even getting into this, because really @beebo12, this is so far-fetched I can’t believe you are lending it credulity. However, what I do think is perhaps the ridiculous tale you are talking about is an exaggerated and rewritten version of what happened with the girl last year who rejected Duke’s rejection, and the fact that it went viral. Links to her letter and Duke’s response are here:

@XAtlas had the best advice.
I’m with you @scout08 my sentiments exactly
Does anyone have any idea if the WL is still active? I don’t even feel like there was a 2nd wave. Very quiet here. My D still has her name on it, but she has moved on. I think I need to move on as well…
you guys/gals are probably right. i just thought that if there were even a slim chance that it would work that it would be worth it. i guess i’ve gotten my hopes up for no good reason. after all this waiting, i think i’ve lost my marbles. in fact, i’m sure i have.
Based on the number of people they admitted this year, I was hoping, the needs from the wait list will be higher than last year. I guess I was wrong. The yield might be up too. Last years were very active. This year is eerily quiet…
We had confirmation that 2 “waves” of names have been released–no more detail than that–so it does seem like the chance of getting in has diminished significantly (not that the odds were great to begin with) to ‘slim-to-none’.
Where and how did you get the confirmation? Thanks!
Spoke to an admissions rep. No numbers were given, no breakdown of schools, just that two waves have gone out. We all pretty much knew that names went out on the 2nd, and then there were those few last week which seemed like too few to be able to say for sure a second wave of names were sent out. He (sadly for us) confirmed what we were all wondering.
@scout08 Did he say if there would be another wave, and if so, when?
@MamaBear555 Nothing specific,unfortunately. However, the timeline stated in the wait list info link says
“Any offers of admission to waitlist candidates will occur first in early May, on a space-available
basis, and may continue through June. The freshman admission process typically ends by July 1”
Thanks, @scout08. Hopefully the process will end sooner than that…
anyone heard anything? getting pretty anxious
Nothing here. We have moved on.
