Hi all,
I noticed there wasn’t a Vandy 2023 RD discussion thread, so here we are! Solidarity! Here’s to getting through these next 3 months together.
Hi There,
I am a Vandy RD 2023 applicant from Ohio. Did you apply for any of the scholarships? I love Vandy and feeling very stressed thinking about it. The wait is killing me…
S19 applied for the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship but it’s such a long shot. I thought it was worth a try since it just requires one essay. We haven’t visited and the rest of the schools on his list are LACs but it seems that Vandy’s freshman experience is pretty hands on in terms of guidance etc. I’ve also read over and over about how happy the kids are there. At our high school, kids with his stats seem to either be accepted or waitlisted so we will see what happens!
I applied for CV…doubt I’m gonna get it! I’d be elated just to get in to Vandy!
@homerdog, I visited Vandy and loved it. I loved the student population and the overall vide of the school. I did apply for CV and Chancellors. Long shot for me as well. I hear Vandy is stats heavy, but who knows. Will keep you posted if I hear anything.
Hi. Was accepted at Harvard EA but still have application into Vandy because of the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship. Does anyone know who was accepted prior years and what benefits there are besides free tuition (which i realize is huge)?
Daughter applied late to Vandy and missed applying for scholarships. Are merit scholarships offered only if you applied before Dec. 1st?
@aggiemom68 My understanding is Dec 1st was the deadline for merit aid. I don’t know of any exceptions. Remember, if you’re going RD, a lot of the $$$ for merit will already be committed to the ED pools, which account for 50% of the class.
@SlimJim005 I’m not sure that’s true. Vanderbilt gives very little merit money and they do it to lure kids to enroll at Vandy instead of somewhere else. Usually, merit funds are given mostly to RD candidates. Why would they bother giving merit to kids who have already committed?
ED students are also reviewed for the signature merit scholarships.
Recipients get a one-time stipend of $5000 for summer study in addition to full tuition.
Hi guys! If Vandy emailed me a few days ago giving me an extended deadline to submit a scholarship essay (b/c they said my application was identified as a potential fit for the scholarship), does that mean I’m likely to be accepted?
@ghrisgris I would think that you have a really good chance
Out of curiosity, what are you stats
not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does Vanderbilt require midterm grades? It was not on the checklist.
I hope so! Crossing my fingers. Sorry, I’m not sure what else to include but:
STATS:
4.0 uw, 4.37 w
9 AP classes
35 ACT, 1540 SAT
Is being contacted for an interview a good sign?
@catmomof3 According to the Vanderbilt website regarding interviews: Through our CoRPs (Commodore Recruitment Programs) Interviewing program, applicants are invited to request an interview from an alumnus/a in their local area. After a student applies, s/he will be sent information via email about how to request a local interview with an alumnus/a. Alumni interviews are completely optional and Vanderbilt cannot guarantee the availability of alumni to interview all students, particularly those living outside major metropolitan areas. In no way will it reflect poorly on students who cannot arrange an interview. According to the website the report filed by the interviewer is included in the student’s file and treated like an additional letter of recommendation. Good luck on your interview!
sooo does anyone know what Vanderbilt emphasizes most in the admissions process (recs, essays, EC’s, etc)? just trying to gauge my chances…
