Vanderbilt 2023 RD Discussion Thread

E-mail at 4:29pm CST - no scholarship for DS

@woolf Congratulations to your son ! Would be great if you can share stats.

Congrats @woolf !

@anxmom18 - I’ll do the best I can. Accept into school of Engineering as a Com Sci Major. Val (out of 548] and Star Student (highest SAT in class); SAT-1520 (760/760]; Full IB diploma student. Pres of Math club and part of a few more clubs. Competes in math competitions with school and come sci competitions outside of school. Runs a volunteer math tutoring program. Started a nonprofit with his brother. Accolpished jazz drummer; plays with school and jazz band he and a friend started, to play prof gigs. Works at a few non-profits and volunteers to code for an outfit that does web pages for other local non-profits.

I am so curious as to whether S19 will get in. With his stats from his school, Naviance looks like he will get in or be waitlisted. I know Vandy likes high stats and NMFs. Two kids have gotten into Vandy from our school already with much lower scores and stats but both are legacies. The kids who are received the CV are crazy impressive so I understand why they are the 3/100 who got the award. I just hope S19 is in the 8% who could be admitted. That percentage is still so insane though…

Thank you @woolf . Impressive

Please post if you get a notification as to when decisions will be released for RD.

Should I be concerned if I haven’t received any email about any scholarships??

I think everyone has already been notified

I asked this question in different thread without any reply.
A lot of the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship precipitants may also be admitted by HYPS. How do you decide between Vanderbilt with CV vs HYPS?

@SSINFO I would pick Vanderbilt without CV over any of those other ones, as none of them compare to Vandy for undergraduate music. Overall, Vanderbilt is at the same level as any of these other elite colleges, and unless money truly is no issue, saving $300,000 is definitely the better option (in my opinion, of course).

@SSINFO. If the cost factor is the same then it’s a question of fit for your child: location, major, interests, vibe etc…if one is free and the others are not then I’d choose the one without cost as they are all exceptional schools. Congratulations on having such wonderful choices ! Just MHO

does anyone know when decisions will come out (rd)?

Probably 3/23 or 3/28 as it was in the past

I just got accepted RD to Blair! They notified me by email, which I will paste here:
Congratulations! We are thrilled to notify you early of your admission to the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University for fall 2019. While you will receive your official admit packet in late March, we invite you to take these extra weeks now to explore Blair and Vanderbilt, and to connect with faculty and current students.
In the coming days, you will receive a welcome from Mark Wait, Dean of the Blair School of Music, with more information about the Blair program into which you were admitted, and with helpful contact information. If you have additional questions about Vanderbilt or Nashville, you are also welcome to contact your admissions officer.
Students at the Blair School of Music contribute so much to the fabric of the Vanderbilt community, and are fully integrated into every facet of undergraduate life. I encourage you to connect with your new classmates via the Class of 2023 Facebook Group, or contact a current Blair student to learn more about life at Blair.
Please note that the status showing on your MyAppVU portal will remain “application complete” until we mail your official admit packet in late March.
Once again, congratulations on your admission to Vanderbilt!
Sincerely,
Douglas L. Christiansen, Ph.D.
Vice Provost for University Enrollment Affairs
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
