Vanderbilt Admission Chance

Hi everyone,
I applied ED and was honestly sitting pretty comfortable and stress free and then it just hit me this week that I have a high chance of not getting in so I wanted to know what people who don’t know me think of my chances.
Stats:
ACT: 35
SAT: 1530
GPA: 4.0 and 5.51 weighted (APs are 6.0 at my school)
I will have 16 APs, all 4s and 5s so far, and 3 dual enrollments at an accredited university.
Class rank: 1/2 (don’t know yet) out of 425
I was told my essay and supplements were extremely strong. This is at the ranked best school in Ohio.
I was varsity lacrosse and varsity football up until senior year due to injuries. I have taken intensive residential summer programs in Neuroscience and Arabic Language, which are major/minor interests. I have 3 major volunteering commitments with one being over 150 hours where I organized a clothing and products drive for the homeless shelter by myself and the other two involve teaching and helping elementary children (with swimming for one and literacy in the other) from underprivileged schools. I have been perpetually involved in student government and have been an elected representative for 3 years. I am also the sole student representative on an administrative board that works to better the school and allocate funds.
I work a job an average of 25-30 hours a week since last Spring.
I have all the typical awards for like math and Latin and national merit and stuff like that.

My rec letters are from 2 teachers I have student aided for that last 2 and then 3 years respectively and those will be great.
My additional recs are my football coach and my grandma, both of which will be killer because of the strong bond I have with both of them.
The counselor rec letter is iffy because I don’t really know her (she didn’t even know who I was by face until I asked her to send in the rec letter) and so i don’t know how that will turn out.
So there is probably some stuff that I missed but that’s the jist, would love to know how you think I stack up!

You have an excellent chance and were correct in maximizing your odds by applying ED. Good luck! I think if your teacher recs are excellent, I question whether you truly need the coach and grandma recs but they won’t hurt you.

Yes, excellent chance!

Wow, you have taken 16 APs? That’s amazing!
I think you have a really good chance. At least I hope you do, bc we have almost exactly the same stats. (I applied ED1 as well)
I hope to see you at Vanderbilt in the fall!

My child has same stats and comparable experiences and leadership. In other words- there are a ton of super smart super motivated interesting kids applying to Vandy. If you dont get in or my daughter does not get in it is not because of anything you did or didnt do. Youve done it all. She has too. Best shot. ED I. Thats all. Know rest is fate and either not meant to be and its their loss - but another opportunity and door opens. With your background you can and will be successful anywhere- because you are hughly motivated and have a plan. Ya never know what or where your journey will lead you. And there are many many great schools. I will be disappointed for her if she doesnt get in but not devastated. In fact, I know she can and will have a variety of options and she will take advantage of them wherever she goes. You will too.

Truly an outstanding post @Nhmama ! Admissions at these most highly selective schools has gone crazy. What it has meant to me is it shines a light on the fact there are so many wonderful, outstanding and motivated young people. Accepted at Duke, not at Vandy, or Vandy and not at Duke (or Harvard, or Yale, replace with school of choice) , won’t define you. YOU DEFINE YOU! There are many incredible schools. Stats like the poster (and responders) are amazing. Don’t let the results ding your confidence because you are among the top 1% of students in America.

My S was really bummed out when he didn’t get into his top choice. I felt bad for him. One door closed and another opened and I’m happy to say he LOVES his school and is having a great freshmen year academically and socially. He couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. He applied to 14 (11 being very selective) schools. Our friends thought we were crazy but competitive schools are just that and it becomes a crap shoot. He was accepted to approx. half so he had great choices. Just make sure you leave yourself appropriate choices and you will be quite happy at a great school in the fall.

Congratulations in advance!

@kansas101491 - You have excellent chances. My son is a current freshmen. he did RD though. Are you applying for any scholarships?

@Srk2017 I am applying for the Cornelius Vanderbilt

Rickie1 is right on! Life is going to be full of disappointments so do your best, learn from your mistakes and never give up. Know that fate and life can be funny and make the most of which ever college is lucky enough to have you! Apply to enough and have options but also know you can and could transfer if need be and try later on to a different school - if absolutely wanted to. You can and will all be successful. Later on in life no one asks where did you go to college. They only care if you can do the job and are a happy well adjusted social person whonis comptetent and stable. Believe in yourself and know that he world has many talented smart folks and that your abilities and contribution will be appreciated and valued at any number of places- schools or work. Never ever give up on yourself or stop working hard. Keep a plan just adjust it when necessary! Goodluck tonight! My daughter gets her ED Vanderbilt letter at 6:30 then flies off to Kenya! What a life! She is one lucky girl regardless!
