Vanderbilt and summer classes

Can a Vandy student save money on the cost of attending Vandy by taking courses at a public university in their home state in the summers?

For example, if I took a Microbiology class at UT in the summer, would it transfer and save me the Vandy expense?

Has anyone done this and how did you know what classes to take?

RW

Your tuition doesn’t change unless you take extra hours (19+ I believe) or are a part time student (11 hours or less).

Summer classes will only save you money if it eliminates enough hours from your degree requirement that you can enroll as a part-time student at some point, or you somehow need so many hours that you would otherwise have to enroll in 19+ one semester.

So no, summer classes will not save you money. However they can make your academic life at Vanderbilt easier and boost your GPA.

Not all classes transfer. You have to get permission from the respective department. They determine if the course is worth of credit and which credit you get for it.

I think there might be a limit on how many summer courses you can transfer. As I recall from my D’s time there (she graduated in 2011), she could only transfer in 2 summer classes for CAS. I could be wrong … you will want to check the website for the particular school (for example, CAS has all its requirements listed on their own website).
