Hey.....I'm having a really hard time picking colleges and was wondering if I could get an outsiders opinion. I've been accepted to Harvey Mudd, Carnegie Mellon, and Vanderbilt. I want to be an engineer (Probably Computer Science), but I'm also very interested in language and business.
Carnegie and Mudd seem better education-wise, but I'd have to be motivated to have any social life, whereas Vanderbilt isnt as good in education but has a good social life.

curious if you guys have any input. thanks in advance.

That's tough! I think I'd probably go with HM, since it's in such a different part of the country. It might be fun to experience something new. It's also a lot smaller, I think, but that could be a + or - depending on your preferences. Tell us what you decide!

hmc is all about doing engineering and drinking. if thats your thing go there, but the campus sucks.

carnegie, i dont know, but it just sounds cold and distant.
i also have a friend going to vanderbilt next year who chose it over rice, williams, and some other places, so it cant be too bad.

when i visited pomona back in october, i toured HMC. its a tiny campus with a lot of construction going on, and it was kind of ugly. it looked like a trailer park, there were kegs and lawn chairs outside the dorms and when we went to the admissions building, it was completely unlocked with no one inside. we luckily found a tour guide and saw the rest of the campus, but it was pretty depressing. they said the average SAT math was 800, and when we went into one of the rooms the students were all still half asleep with their nintendo and their refrigerator was covered with alcohol labels. also when i visited pomona again this month they had a TQ (tequila) party there which i didnt go to, but so atleast you know they have parties...
i personally hate the place.
