@akacesfan‌ I thought decisions didn’t come out until 3 pm CDT.

@JalapenoGreens‌ they went up online officially about 17-ish minutes ago. Before that, there was a trick that people were using to access their letters early.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses):

Key Club International-(International Trustee, District Treasurer, Lieutenant Governor, Class Director, International Education and Development Committee member, International Executive Committee member, the list goes on for quite a while…)
Chair of a committee that disbursed $20k in grants to service projects across the state.

Worked at a CPA’s office.

Volunteer/Community Service: 1044 hours total

Essays: All were good. I’d say 8-9/10
Teacher Recommendations: I read one and it was the amazing. I’d imagine that the other was at least adequate.
Counselor Rec: Counselor was new to school this year and barely knows me. I’m sure he didn’t say anything bad about me, but he definitely doesn’t have much insight into what’s going on in my life.
Additional Rec: Rec from the adult advisor for my state’s Key Clubs. Amazing. he’s known me for four years and wrote a lot about what I’ve done in the positions that I’ve held.
Interview: Tried to get one, but the interviewers that I requested never contacted me.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid? Yes
Projected major: School of Arts and Science
State (if domestic applicant): I’d rather not say.
Country (if international applicant): USA

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None–>see ethnicity

Reflection
Strengths: ACT score, extra curricular activities, additional rec
Weaknesses: Subject test scores, highly specific ECs
Why you think you were waitlisted: Probably because of the number of other qualified applicants. Thought I had a really good shot at Vandy initially, but with an acceptance rate lower than 10%, nothing is guaranteed.

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Hopefully next week brings better news. I’m really happy that I haven’t really emotionally committed myself to any schools to which I have not yet been accepted.

Decision: Waitlisted for chemical engineering

Waitlisted: Case Western, lol Rejected: none
General Comments: I’m not phased. I didn’t really accomplish anything too amazing in high school, and there were tons more applicants who deserved to get in more than I did. I don’t think I’m going to claim a spot on the waitlist because I’d rather attend UCLA, UCSB, or Berkeley (if I get in). Congratulations to everyone who got in :–) You’re all going to do amazing things

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Perhaps they believed I would not fit as well as others. However, they wanted to give me a chance in case I really wanted to attend. I have declined the waitlist offer.
[
] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: UChicago, GTECH, UMDCP, UMBC, Emory U, UCLA
Waitlisted: Vanderbilt only Rejected: Nowhere yet
**General Comments: Let college decisions be a time when we may each reflect upon what we are grateful for in life. If we think we are abundant, we shall be.
The Universe has a divine plan for each of us, and therefore every college decision, be it acceptance or rejection (or waitlist), is the best possible outcome.

State (if domestic applicant): VA
Country (if international applicant):

Strengths: ECs, recs
Weaknesses: Test scores, Essays
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: What school needs another upper-middle class white male with “average” SAT’s according to their standards? My essays were good but not stellar. Solid all-around candidate but nothing to make me stand out
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: I was accepted to UVA and Virginia Tech (safety) and now intend on being denied from Duke (ideal school) after being rejected from Vandy
General Comments: Extremely frustrated as many of my schoolmates with substantially less impressive credentials have been accepted to even more selective colleges (e.g. Duke, WashU, etc.) due to family ties so I assumed I would make it into at least one of my reach schools, but now I understand just how many people there are with the same test scores and essay caliber as my application and see why I was denied. Something is clearly wrong with the college admission process in that I can work hard for 4 years, taking every hardest class offered, and receive nothing but A’s while participating in year-round varsity sports, and then 5 or 6 mistakes on a 9th grade level standardized test (SAT) make my application look nothing but mediocre by comparison. Main point: Disheartened but not angry or necessarily shocked at my decision; infuriated at how much nepotism and family ties impact admission decisions.

Reflection
Strengths: Extracurriculars, leadership, GPA
Weaknesses: SAT SCORES
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Honestly surprised about being waitlisted- didn’t show a lot of interest and SAT scores are low for Vanderbilt- Good extracurriculars, strong leadership, and hook for Peabody Ed School probably helped with me
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted Fordham, Villanova, BC, and Notre Dame (will most likely attend)

**General Comments: **

Keeping my hopes up!! Was certain I would get rejected, so feeling like the waitlist is an accomplishment in itself

**Decision: Accepted

[] Essays: I would give my common app essay an 8. I wrote about going against the family grain and making my first political decision.
For my essay on my extracurricular, I wrote about founding the debate club at my school and the effects it had on the school community and my goals for the future.
[
] Teacher Recommendation:I asked my AP Comp/AP US History teacher and my English 3 Honors teacher. Both of them really like me (and the English teacher is the NHS moderator) so I think they wrote good recs.
[] Counselor Rec: I think it was fine. She knows me pretty well and says I’m among the top of my class. She also told me I had the hardest course load of anyone else in the Senior class.

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly couldn’t tell you, and that’s probably not helpful for any hopeful candidates looking at this! I would say I focused on what Vanderbilt would let me do instead of what I’ve already done. I also talked as if I was an already accepted candidate (I used words like, “When” and “I will” and avoided “if”).
[
] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted- FSU, UF, Cornell
Deferred SCEA from Yale
Waiting on Brown, Columbia, Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Dartmouth, UPenn
**General Comments: **

I can’t believe I got accepted! Vanderbilt is one of the most elusive schools for applicants from my high school. It’s pretty exciting!! Congrats to everyone who got in.
For applicants next year, focus on what Vanderbilt offers that other schools don’t. Don’t tell them you want to go there or that it’s your dream school. Let that shine out through your knowledge and passion about their school!

Also, sorry for the formating!
