Vanderbilt ED Chances?

Chance me and I'll chance you back! (in the morning, it's late here)

I plan on applying ED because it's my top school by a long shot... However I'm worried that my ACT score will kill me over.

I've been in love with the school ever since I visited, I also plan on doing the alumni interview after I apply (if I can find one in my area). Also, if you were me, would you report my AP scores on common app? Or not put them at all?

Anyway, here are my stats:
GPA: W 4.33 UW 4.00
Rank: 8/551
School: One of the best if not the best public school in Georgia (depends on which ranking used)
ACT: 31 (meh I know...just retook it, expecting 1-3 points higher)
SAT:laughable
AP Classes taken (11 including senior year): World History(didn't take), Environmental Science (5), US History (3), Biology (5), Lang & Comp (5), Calc AB (4), Chemistry (4)
Senior Year Course Load: Zoology/Botany (advanced science course), AP Physics B, AP Lit, AP Stat, AP European History, Gov/Econ (school offers AP, but don't have room), Lab Aide (basically just a TA for a science teacher, grade papers and set up labs)

Awards:3-4 DECA awards (2 at regions 2 at state)
Most improved in track
AP Environmental Science Student of the year
2 Top 10 Science Olympiad Awards
Georgia Certificate of Merit Recipient
AP Scholar with Distinction

Extracurriculars:
Varsity Track/Field (9,10,11,12)
Environmental Science Club (Vice President 9,10,11,12)
Science National Honor Society (Secretary 11,12)
Science Olympiad (Captain 10,11,12)
Interact Rotary Club (Service Club 9,10,11,12)
Flood club (Service Club 9,10,11,12)
Math Honor Society (10,11,12)
National Honor Society (11,12)
Beta Club (10,11,12)
DECA (State team 9,10,11,12)
Huamane Hearts (Founding member 11,12) (works coincide with NHS with animal shelter volunteering)

Volunteer:
~100 hours in all of the service clubs(animal shelter, saturday tutoring, local clean ups through my county)
40 hours at a pediatric hospital
There's a lot more little events (ex: 5ks, food drives, football game fundraising) that I do which I will list on my app in the additional information section.

Work: Work at my aunt's chemical company doing backroom storage, working at my mom's company doing data entry, part time nanny, also work 15 hours a week at a gym in the child daycare

I also had an internship at UGA researching in a lab on enzymology (unpaid)

Summer Activities: The internship and hospital volunteering were both over the summer, currently trying to get a job as well. Some other small things (helping with a 5k, etc.) over the summer as well.

Recommendations: Should be extremely good... I know my counselor, and I'm going to get one of my teachers I've had for 3 years to write one as well as the department head and another from the professor at my internship.

Essays: Should be excellent, even though I may not seem like that great of a writer, but I'm pretty good when it comes to essays. My English teacher said she would help me as well.

I think your ECs are pretty cool, mixing job work and Volunteering. My ECs run similar to that. You do have the GPA advantage on your end. How’re them SATII scores doing?

I am reporting the APs, considering how I got an AP scholar award–showing them the exact scores I got would be of help instead of just mentioning the award I got from multiple scores that they might not even know.

I wanna say Low reach to match. You have a damn good shot considering how interesting a student you seem with those ECs, and you have numbers to back those interesting bits (lets hope yesterday went well for you, it sucked for me haha).

Good luck this year! Would you mind chancing back? You have quite a few similarities and I need input on a few new schools…http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1550070-looking-some-helpful-input-chance-me.html</a></p>

Chances are very good, possible Match.

Thanks guys, I’m just worried like most people on here because it is my #1 by far…

Anyone else have any opinion? I’ll chance back!

Any other opinions would be awesome! I’ll chance back!

It’s not letting my edit my original post, but like most applicants, all of my non-ap classes were honors (except for 3) and they are weighted as a 4.0 for an A.

Vanderbilt ED: Low reach to reach

ACT score is low!

I know my ACT score is low :frowning: And I just got my results back with the same composite score… so it seems that I’m applying with my 31. Anyone else have any input?

Vandy ED: low reach, if your essay is excellent you might have an even better chance. Vandy accepted 14% last year though. ECs and GPA are of excellent. A 31 is not THAT low, 25% still get in with below a 32. You’re right next to the middle 50%. If anyone gets in with a 31 I think it would be you.

Is EDII an option? You’d be able to get another test in before applying.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1560801-final-chance-thread-chancing-back.html</a></p>

You’re ACT is actually in their range, so it should be fine, especially since you think you improved it. Your course load is solid. You have very consistent ECs as well, which is awesome. The research is impressive. And you can balance work on top of all of that! I would say that you are a high match. Good job! I think you can totally get in.

Great. Thats it.
Now you have to write a great essay! Don’t forget that kids with perfect score get rejected from Harvard or other top tier colleges because of their lame essays!

buuump…

My essay is written, all 4 adults who read it said it was very unique. It’s nothing tragic, but just kind of quirky.

If your essays are great, then there are nothing to do for now.
Just make sure to fill out all documents you need.

bumppp will chance back

I don’t think your ACT score is harmful to your app if you go ed, it’s neutral for lack of a better term. Your ecs are pretty great! Especially your intense club involvement. Your GPA is pretty great as well. I’d say ed is a high match. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567485-chance-me-duke-ed.html</a></p>

I have a bunch of people at my school who get into Vandy every year, and based on their stats, I think you have a good shot with ED. You should definitely report your AP scores - they are very strong in the sciences, which I’m assuming you’re majoring in.

Your GPA and rank are great! I think your ACT score is not bad at all; it’s definitely in Vanderbilt’s range.

Overall, if your essays can convey who you are and tie in your motivation behind your activities, I think you’ll get in! Some things that caught my eye include the research internship, Humane Hearts, and working 15 hours a week.

High match. Good luck! Please get me back.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1574931-chance-me-osu-please-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Got my ACT score finally… got a 32 (31M 30E 30R 35S). I’m also doing the optional interview which hopefully helps me a little.

Anyone else?

I think you’re in! I mean, nothing’s for sure, but your application looks awesome plus ED makes it a match for you I think

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1585859-cmu-ed-results-come-out-12-days-one-last-chance.html</a></p>

Hi. Thanks for chancing me. I’d have to say that it’s a low reach right now. If it were a 33 or higher, I’d say it would be a high match. However, your score doesn’t disqualify you for the school; it’s just not a factor that should be the clincher. However, like I said, it shouldn’t necessarily hold you back.

Good luck!
