Vanderbilt ED1 Discussion Thread Class of 2021

Is anyone else thinking about applying to Vandy ED??

I think I am! I still have to do the financial aid calculator before I know for sure

Yeah I’m going to!

Does anyone know if there is any legal way to back out of attending ED if the financial aid package is not at all what was expected?

@wildone17 you will have a week or so to look at the financial aid package before accepting. It is the only reason you can back out of ED.

Okay thank you! @XCjunior2016

Do you think they place more weight on the ACT composite score or the sub scores? I have a 32 composite (34 E, 33 S, 33 R, 26 M) which I know is on the lower end for composite score. I’m really scared that my 26 on the math section will be a detriment to my application

how easy is it to back out? My NPC is at the very edge of what i might be able to pay but I would have a much better shot applying ED

@wildone17 I’ve heard that Vanderbilt really cares about test scores, even though they say they’re holistic

wildone17, use your ED round wisely. Always be super shrewd and realistic about chances, money and your long game. Your ACT is low for Vandy and they get almost 30 thousand applicants. That said, you have an excellent ACT. Many colleges would be thrilled to get you in their admittance pool. Interesting how well you did on the Science vs the Math. Can you take an SAT math subject test for one hour (prep for it!! buy the book)? Could be of use to your overall view not only at Vandy but elsewhere if you just had an off day. Whatever you do, look down the long road at costs for grad school etc.

@Faline2 thanks so much for taking the time to respond! I’m registered to take the ACT again in September to get my score up. I think I just had an off day because I got a previous composite of 30 with a 29 on the math section.

From our experience, the FA calculator on Vandy’s site did not accurately predict what we were offered in the end. Backing out of ED is tricky and impacts others. Read the contract.

Actually, Vandy addresses ED vs financial aid package directly:

“Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment.”

Also applying to Vandy ED1! I have a friend who applied ED and was accepted to the Class of 2018, and he said the NPC results were extremely accurate, at least for him.

I am also applying early decision! Good luck everyone!!!

I’m applying ED1! hoping for the best!

are my chances of getting in lowered if more people at my school are applying ED?

I think I am!

I am an asian male, middle class, living in Alabama. ACT 34 (Eng. 35/ Math 35/ Reading 33/ Science 31) Are my stats sufficient for ED1 at vanderbilt?
