I have super strong ECs, a 4.5 weighted GPA and have gotten all 5’s and 4’s on AP tests. I only have a 30 ACT w/ 3.4 UW due to missing half of sophomore year because of illness. Is it a waste of time applying? And is really worth applying ED2 over RD?
@savvyitup with your stats, I think you would have about the same chance ED2 as you would RD.
What are the most important parts of your application? Are test scores given more weight than grades and courseload?
Grades and course load seems to be determined in a specific way. I feel as though class rank is the most important “grades” rating, and you would ideally want to be at least in the top 10%. Course load would be making sure that you take one of the harder schedules that can be offered by your school.
Test scores seem to be a bit more important, allowing slightly more leeway for grades and course load. However, you really need both elements there. High test scores won’t make up for a lower class rank and an easy schedule in the context of your school, and high class rank and a difficult schedule don’t make up for low test scores.
This is going to be a long 2 months
so I want to apply ED2 to engineering but I have not had any outside engineering work experience. I am taking AP Physics, BC Calc, and AP Computer Science and have taken all the highest level math and science courses throughout high school. I also received an award from the society of women engineers. Is my lack of outside work going to hurt me a lot?
You don’t need work experience in your field. If you have a lot to offer otherwise, you’ve got a good chance. Good luck!
I submitted my app today, but haven’t gotten a confirmation email, and when I tried to create a VU account, it said my email was not found? Should I be worried, or should I wait a few days before calling them?
Also good luck to everyone; I know these next two months are going to be the slowest ever.
How much weight does Vandy give to the ACT writing test
man, I haven’t even sent in my app yet and I’m already incredibly nervous.
@lefty163 I wouldn’t worry about. Same thing happened to me, it showed up after about 2-3 days.
Could someone chance me for EDII?
GPA (unweighted) 4.0
SAT 2110 (750 CR, 730 W, 630 M)
SAT II (720 US history, 710 Lit)
AP Tests (5 APUSH, 5 AP LANG, 5 APGOV)
Classes: Will have taken 6 APs by the end of this year, only 8 offered at my school; rest of classes are honors
Class Rank: 3/87
Recommendations: strong, one is from my math teacher explaining that my math capabilities are way beyond SAT score, have consistently performed in top 5% of challenging math courses
ECs:
NHS Vice President
Ambassador Board Member (marketing leadership board, only seven people chosen per grade)
Retreat Leader
Academic Bowl Team
100+ hours of service at VA Hospital and local retirement home
Ministry & Service Team
Began a tutoring program at a local middle school
Other: Not applying for financial aid; have visited campus twice and gone to 3 information sessions in my area
@hlb9597 I mean you could say that your math is way better than your SAT score but the thing is so many people get perfect scores on both SAT I Math and Sat level 2 Math. Unless you have something like AMCs or a standardized test such as an IB or AP to prove that then all the admissions officers will know from this is that your school’s math courses are not challenging as you would think.
Vandy just released their stats for its current 1st years – the middle 50% range for CR was 710-780 and for Math was 720-800, so your CR is dead center, but your math is significantly towards the bottom of the last quartile and you didn’t bother taking either of the SAT II math subject tests. You would need something really, really outstanding in your application.
if i got an 800 on the math section of my sat, should i even bother sending my math subject test scores (my only good scores) that are 770 math I and 730 math II
also i got a 34 on the act but only a 2160 on the sat (680 CR, 800 Math) should i even bother sending my sat scores?
Could someone chance me for ED2?
