Hey guys! I posted in here a little while ago about my chances, but I didn’t see an actual Vandy ED2 thread for this year. Anyone else planning on applying ED2?
I am!
Nice! Which school are you applying to? I’m applying to Arts and Sciences
arts and sciences as well. do you know if it is beneficial to submit the optional resume? I don’t think I’m going to because the things that didn’t fit on my CA were minor things
I applied to arts & sciences and submitted a resume. I’m not sure how helpful it is, but I used it to explain my activities and honors a little more
I think as long as you’ve said everything you need to in your activities list it doesn’t matter. I submitted a short one just because I’ve studied abroad and gone on a volunteer trip so it was basically just talking about that.
Hello, I wanted to know if ED is still binding if not accepted into your first choice major
anyone know if there is an RD thread?
I think thats a good point because vandy does let you select 4 possible majors on the common app? how do alternate majors play into this?
According to the vanderbilt website, early decision is binding regardless of what school you’re admitted to. I might be regretting putting a second choice school now…
Is it true that the admission rate for Peabody is higher than that of other colleges? My stats is not outstanding but my resume and sup essays really highlights my commitment to Education. I know that applying under ED is already an a strong indication of demonstrated interest but I also want to submit an additional essay about why I choose Vanderbilt. Should I do it?
@hosh150614 If you look here https://virg.vanderbilt.edu/virgweb/fb.aspx?show=2 You will see that for 2017 overall there were 31,462 applicants and 3415 acceptances or a 11% acceptance rate. For A&S there were 22,051 applicants and 2140 acceptances or about 10% acceptance rate. For Engineering there were 7563 applicants and 851 acceptances or about 11% rank. For Peabody there were only 1478 applicants and 294 acceptances for a 20% acceptance rate.
When on the campus tour I asked the guide if it was easier to get into Peabody and she said no they are all the same. However, the numbers clearly tell a different story. For Peabody the applicant pool is much smaller and the acceptance rate is twice as large.
If your resume and supps are strong on your interest in Education, I would just leave it alone. However, you may want to contact your regional AC and ask him or her.
does anyone have a link to the vandy website where it explains how early decision is binding regardless of what school you’re admitted to? i can’t remember reading that anywhere
hey guys:)
has anyone received the email from Vandy yet about making the MyAppVU Account? I haven’t gotten it and i’m really worried…I sent in the app the day it was due (I’m sure of it!!) so i checked the commonapp and it says that the app was “Dowloaded January 3rd, 2018 ET”??
Does this mean I won’t be considered??:(( Help!
@dkdkdkzz The request to choose your second choice college is mostly meant for kids applying to the music school who are not invited to have an audition. My counselor said it’s very unlikely we will be considered for our second choice schools
I wouldn’t worry about being admitted to the “wrong” school and wanting to get out of your ED agreement. I know they have you put down alternate choice schools, but I’ve honestly never heard of someone being admitted to anything other than their first choice. I feel like it would only be for Blair students who don’t get auditions, or really weird situations; i.e. if you put Peabody as your first choice and engineering as your second choice, but had no demonstrated interest in education or business, had 5s on calc BC, physics, chem, comp sci, and had done biomed eng research in high school (even that’s probably a stretch).
Also, it’s not like other institutions where there are walls between different schools, where if you don’t get into the one you want you’re stuck. It’s super easy to switch between the three at any time, and many people switch once they get on campus right before classes start.
Major is even less structured, since you’re not admitted directly to a major and nobody cares until you declare sophomore spring.
Peabody is likely a self-selecting pool, evident in the fact that it receives less than 10% the number of apps received by A&S. A ~10% difference in acceptance rate is probably explained by the fact that applicants to peabody are likely more well-informed about the school, college admissions in general, and their own professional interests (having sought out Peabody for its high ranking among education programs nationally). I also feel like a big portion of the bottom 10% of the applicant pool to A&S/engineering are students from the southeast/midwest who are throwing in an app as their reach, and are less likely to define a specific program with their crapshoot dice roll. If you’re paranoid you could try it, especially if you have ECs that line up, but I’d say its probably not worth the minor inconvenience of having to fill out the paperwork to switch schools.
@fdgjfg another explanation is that Vandy, although very highly rated for education, is a very expensive school for an education degree. Thus they have a very smaller applicant pool for a $67,000 price tag for an education degree.
And trust me I am not putting it down and my daughter wants education but is Vandy education at $67,000 with no merit that much better than Clemson or Delaware for $45,000 and $15,000 in merit money? Or better than UNC education at $45,000? Or even Brown education at the same price?
We are going to struggle with that dilemma if my daughter happens to be lucky enough to get into Vandy or Brown or UNC.
@burghdad Thank you so much! I will consider contacting my Regional Counselor.
@fdgjfg Thank you very much for your input! I already indicated Peabody as my first-choice school when I applied.
@fdgjfg I wasn’t suggesting just applying to Peabody as a way of rigging the system. I was just pointing out to @hosh150614 that statistically the numbers are better for Peabody applicants.
As noted above my daughter applied to Peabody because she wants education and specifically is really interested in the HOD program. If she would be lucky enough to get admitted to Vandy that program may be the deciding factor between the other education schools I mentioned above.
Is there anywhere we’re able to locate the recent decision dates of Vandy EDII for past years? Or is it rolling?
