A lurker here. Now starting to get nervous
So, how’s it going? I am from India and applying for a full ride…makes me quite nervous with that ACT. what do you think?
Vanderbilt is more secretive about decision dates than most people are about secret affairs.
BWAHAHA!
Hey @Yman66 ! what’s up
I’m also an international applicant from India (with a really bad GPA and a 31 ACT)
Really freaking out rn. Also applied for a lot of aid so yeah…
@harveyspectator @Yman66 I too am an international student FROM INDIA!!!(sucks right?) nevertheless, did you guys interview or what?
@Loyal0learner Yes, I did interview with the assistant director of admissions/ the counselor for India, Mr.Ferrel Armstrong at EducationUSA New Delhi.
I did not go for that CoRPs thing although that was readily available.
@harveyspectator @Loyal0learner I want to share one queer thing, I follow Vandy on twitter and what happened a week ago was that a wing of vandy that is incharge of their merchandise VandyGear or Vanderbilt Licensing, started following me. Quite peculiar.
Hey @Yman66 @Loyal0learner
I couldn’t interview. (Don’t live in Mumbai/Delhi)
Also, @Yman66 how did you manage to interview without CORPS? I thought that was the only way we could arrange an interview.
The twitter thing is interesting. It could be a sign. My friend was followed by some UPenn Dining account a few weeks before ED decisions and he got in. I can’t guarantee there’s a correlation here though
@harveyspectator It makes me smug.
Now for the interview, It’s a long story, wanna listen?
I’m up for it haha
So,
I belong to a real lower- middle-class family and we couldn’t afford even a single standardized test. I did not even think of applying and was going to a IIT-JEE Coaching (hope you know that) on a full scholarship by them. Then the coaching people introduced me to EduacationUSA. These guys have a program called the Opportunity funds program that supports students like me to apply. So I cleared their testing and interview process and got in. Then all my expenses related to the application were covered by them . Even the money spent by me on rickshaw to go to the Passport seva kendra was reimbursed. With my adviser at EducationUSA, I finalized Vanderbilt as my ED2 and fortunately, in the same time period, Mr. Armstrong was visiting Delhi for doing a session with universities like Rice and Macalester. The people at EducationUSA asked him and he gladly agreed, and so I got an interview.
He said one thing a lot of times: Standardized testing matters a lot. Real lot.
@Yman66 major props to you.
It’s too idealistic but I really hope we all get into Vandy. I’ve seen Vandy really putting a lot of weight on SAT/ACT scores and hence wasn’t planning on applying at first. I’m shooting for the stars right now.
Did he emphasise on anything other than standardised testing?
Best of luck, though!
PS: I was in FIITJEE for two years before I left it in the end of 11th grade. Hence why my grades are absolutely laughable. Coaching classes expect you to put in 0 effort at school, and I did exactly that. Sigh
@harveyspectator Thanks man!
We basically discussed some other cool stuff at Vandy which is real rare at other universities but here’s a little summary.
- Vandy has a F-1 racing team and a track.
- Vandy students were involved in making Nissan GTR and a lot of them do internships at Nissan.
- These guys helped in discovering an element "Tennessene".
- Upon asking, he told me that the next most important thing are the Recos, all three of them with the Counselor one being the most important.
- One more thing about the grades, these guys know about the normal fall of grades in Indian students in class 11 and class 12's mid-terms, so that is a good point.
I do hope we all get in!
Yes, my coaching “Avanti Fellows” were no different except the fact that they offered me a full waiver and a tablet. They keep in touch even now.
I’ve heard great stuff about Avanti.
Well, that’s great that they know about Indian grade deflation.
I never knew any of the first three points you mentioned. Insane that they have a F-1 track and team.
Thanks a ton man. Let’s hope for the best!
Also,
@Loyal0learner @vaibhavm99 did you guys interview?
If so, were there any specific things about Vanderbilt/the admissions process the interviewer discussed with you?
Same thing happened to me but on instagram @Yman66
do you guys think that could be a sign? Im really nervous now because no one followed me. I looked through the vandy gear twitter though, and a lot of the people its following say in their bio that they go to a different college. However, some are people that are joining vandy next year.
@tylerperez12 @Yman66 happened to me on Instagram as well
