Vanderbilt EDI 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

boy I’m nervous…everyone seems to have near perfect gpa’s (something i don’t have)

No letter again today in the Jersey Shore!! This is pure torture!

@Momthreeboys: you’re kidding me!

My daughter received her acceptance yesterday in Jackson, MS! 33 ACT (didn’t take SAT)…3.96 weighted gpa…essay about her old 1996 Volvo carrying her places and her siblings(2nd oldest out of 5)…senior class president…cross country awards…one AP and 3 honors classes junior year…4APs this year…two service trips to China last two summers… Elected Tribal leader at her summer camp, Kanakuk…4th generation to attend Vanderbilt…Won award 25 Students Who Will Change The World… Passionate about diet and helping undeserved prevent cancer. Her dad had cancer 12 years ago.

GeauxVU2017: Wow congratulations to you and your daughter! Along with everyone else that has been accepted! Anxiously awaiting here in MD

letter came today in central/northern new jersey! mom is bringing it to school so i can open it!!

Thank you! We were told last year that only 1 AP & 3 honors might not be enough for Vanderbilt but we chose sanity over a complete grind. She also had a good number of speech and debate awards. She didn’t start speech & debate until Sophomore year and I know the debate coach wrote a great rec. She has a lot of grit. I went to Vanderbilt which helps a little. I have had plenty of friends kids not get in.

@vandygirl330 - where are you?

AGAIN no letter in Atlanta suburb. :(

Spieluhr- I wish I was kidding! I even drove to the post office and made them look though everything they had there, thinking maybe they didn’t get around to sorting everything, but nothing. My son is officially freaking out with me now. He has been texting from school to find out what’s going on and couldn’t believe he didn’t get it today either. Hopefully, tomorrow!!!

Sorry to hear about disappointing news. I teach high school and one of my most endearing students didn’t get into Vanderbilt but was accepted into Northwestern’s medical school as a high school senior so I knew how hard Vandy is to get in. You will be successful and I know of two students who didn’t get in at first and transferred in as sophomores. In acceptance lies peace. It might take awhile but believe something better is out there. Best wishes your way! After Vanderbilt we were looking at UVA, Wake, Furman(I love Furman and Greenville is great), SMU, Tulane and Dartmouth

Accepted - got letter yesterday in Michigan

Wrote essay on a quote from John Green about nerds: “Nerds are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff…Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself-love it. When people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.”

From what I have seen on the board, she is stronger in the academics but I thought maybe light in the EC’s.

Good luck to all!

Congrats to those accepted & my heart goes out to those who were not. But with what has happened in Conn today, this isn’t the worst thing that will ever happen. I don’t know if DS will get in, but if he doesn’t it isn’t the end of the world. He will still go to a great college & I will be able to hug & squeeze him as long as he’ll let me. Prayers to the parents of those sweet babies & to the families of all involved.
