Does anyone have any good recommendations for schools? I really didn’t have a second choice.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed re admission to Vandy. However, the most important thing to do now is to make realistic RD plans Financially. NUMBER ONE is where can you afford your family EFC? Two siblings in college at the same time will have a bit of a softening for your parents. All students applying to private colleges should also be applying to their state public colleges. You are a good student and you can succeed at any college that you find you can afford financially, so if you can indicate your financial limits and your regional preferences and preferences for size of college, perhaps people can make some suggestions. My alma mater is Furman, which is a larger liberal arts based college with a rigorous and personal classroom experience. However their need aid does not compare to Vandy’s. Few colleges have the no loans package deal. Merit aid at Furman is unlikely based on your stats. Some colleges like Furman get more female applicants than male applicants, so you have advantages as a male applicant to some of the finer liberal arts collegs. Personally, although I have a son at Vanderbilt now, I am the first to admit that my friend’s children at schools that are liberal arts colleges are getting some things you can’t get at a mid sized university like Vandy re mentoring and personal access to faculty. For a computer science major, you might get just as good a foundation at a state university or at a place like Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virginia Tech and colleges with a strong history of engineering. Good luck…networking is always a plus if you end up at a large state university. We live near VA Tech and their networking is amazing.

Thanks a lot Faline. I appreciate the personal response and time you took to write it. I did apply to GT already. Thanks for the advice.

My Dad is a Rambling Wreck…and their connection to the job market is amazing…for those who can stand up to the inevitably hard projects and dismal grades and keep their eyes on the prize. A career. My nephew graduated with maybe a 3.0 from VA Tech and got a job immediately in civil. If you want a guaranteed access to employment…and have the disposition for it, try VMI to max your potential.
good luck

Faline…i love your replies…so smart and honest with these young men and women! Hopefully all of you accepted people will find each other on FB soon…and to those with awesome places waiting (you just don’t know it yet…) best of luck! One other suggestion on engineering is TN Tech…very well known for it’s engineering program, and a good state school. Just an hour from Nashville. my dad was an engineer from there, and many friends how graduated from there a doing quite well! (I graduated from there as well as my husband). Best years of my life : )

What’s the deal with housing? Can we start scouting out roommates?

You remind me of myself back when I got in ED. You’re going to want to wait on finding a roommate until everyone gets in RD. Sit back and relax for now.
