Best of luck, everyone! What are you guys doing to pass the time?! Music suggestions?

nashgirl, if we will “definitely know” by then, do you think that means that they will mail the letters like a week earlier? because usually one week after they mail the letters they say “if you haven’t received your letter by now, you can call admissions to get your decision”

and wallacea, mainly i am just trying not to think of it! hard, but only thing i know to do to keep myself from going crazy!

katie2013vandy, it probably means that they will be mailing it out on like the 10th or 11th…for ed1 they mailed it out on like the 12th and they found out on the 14th

This year the ED1 decisions were mailed on 12/11 and my son in NJ received his on 12/15.

My son in California received his on December 14. Admissions posted a blog that the letters had been mailed.

They haven’t posted on the blog in a while… hopefully that means they are busy reviewing our applications :)

Haha I thought the same thing! Here’s to wishful thinking :)

anyone heard anything?

Nothing yet - I don’t expect to hear anything until at least Wednesday of next week.

You guys - it’s been real, it’s been fun, and it’s been real fun. Now all we have left to wait on is snail mail.
Good luck everyone! No matter what the decision for each of each one us is, I have faith that we are going to achieve great things, at Vanderbilt- or not. :)

I just posted this analysis on: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1418161-early-applications-growth-decline-class-2017-a-2.html#post15459553
& thought I’d share…

Rarely do we get contemporaneous insight into ED2; only happens when ED1 numbers are first reported and subsequent total ED numbers are reported later, just as has happened with Vandy…

OK, first here are the facts so far reported & sources:

ED1: 2,054 apps, +20.61% increase from last year; 553 acceptances @ 26.92% accept rate
<a href=“Early Admissions Statistics 2013 - Interactive Feature - NYTimes.com”>Early Admissions Statistics 2013 - Interactive Feature - NYTimes.com;
Total ED: 3,248 apps, +14% increase; 21.18% accept rate
http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/vandybloggers/2013/02/early-decision-ii-letters-mailed/
Total apps: 30,870 this year, 28348 last year, 8.90% increase
<a href=“Application Tally 2013 - Graphic - NYTimes.com”>Application Tally 2013 - Graphic - NYTimes.com;

Estimated numbers for ED:

ED2 apps this year- 3248-2054= 1194
ED1 apps last year- 2054/1.2061= 1703
Total ED apps last year- 3248/1.14= 2849
therefore ED2 apps last year- 2849-1703= 1146
ED2 growth- (1194-1146)-1= 4.19%

Total ED acceptance- 21.18%*3248= 688
ED2 Acceptances=688-553= 135
ED2 Accept Rate- 135/1194= 11.31%

Further teasing out numbers for RD:

RD Apps last year- 28348-2849= 25499
RD Apps this year- 30870-3248= 27622
RD App growth- (27622/25499)-1= 8.33%

bottom line, Vandy ED1 growth is the greater growth component (ED1, ED2, RD) in terms of percent. ED1 accept rate is over double ED2. I would expect RD accept rate to be close to ED2, although I have nothing Vandy-specific to base this conjecture on.

erratum on the above post:

the line “ED2 growth” should read
(1194/1146)-1= 4.19%

Papa, thank you for your post. It looks like the trends are:
- increased use of ED
- ED acceptance rate is double the RD rate
- Vanderbilt is a HOT university now
Applications increase for class of 2017
Vanderbilt 9%
Brown 0.2%
Columbia 5%
Dartmouth -3%
Princeton -0.6%
Duke 0.4%
UPENN 0
Rice 1%
Hopkins 0.5%
Yale 3%
Northwestern 2%

you are welcome bud123. One clarification…ED1 accept rate is probably more than double RD accept rate…the same does not hold true for ED2 accept rate.

At the macro level, and in marketing context, it appears we are seeing a leveling off of apps increases for schools that have been in marketing mode for a while…like the Ivies. Others, like Vandy, have joined the marketing game later, hence they haven’t ‘saturated’ their market yet. Other notables with big increases include Case Western (which dumped its supplemental essay requirement & made applying free or cheap), BU which put a huge marketing recruiting effort in this season, and many others. As Vandy dropped its supplemental essay requirement not too long ago (I think), this can partly explain why Vandy may seem “hot.” As a cynic watching these marketing moves, the growth or decline of applications may have nothing to do with the quality of the school. Its part of a game to make a school appear more selective if you ask me. Heck, BC ADDED an essay requirement this year, thereby dropping apps >25%, on purpose to drive casual applicants away from their app pool…has the school’s quality dropped like its app pool?.. don’t think so.

Yes I agree marketing by schools is a big factor in applications. I would also give credit to Vandy’s administration, faculty, growth of Nashville, high “quality of life” scores from students, and even the success of it’s football team. I think more students today want the entire package: elite academics, school spirit, academic community, great dorms & food, top athletic conference entertainment, varied social opportunities, greek life, merit scholarships, great fin. aid, and a great city to live in. There are only a few schools that can offer all this to students.

Nothing came in the mail today in Ohio. I assume I’ll receive a decision either Monday or Tuesday
