To everyone who wasn’t accepted, I am sure there is a GREAT college out there for you and that you will do amazing wherever you go. And to those accepted, congratulations and I can’t wait to meet you all next fall! (only six months away!!!) I am a new member on the forum, but I wanted to say thank you for all the kind words and support.

You must be a really, really great guitar player- cause your stats are so low for Vandy- good luck!

Thanks alexmariejp, I auditioned on the 26th of January!

Thanks too indepcc, I was worried my grades and scores would bring me down. I had one of the best performances of my life though and I guess they liked what they heard.

All the Blair faculty were very nice and approachable people.

VandyMom - My son was accepted EDI. We are from the Central Coast of California. It’s nice to see a few Californians heading to Vanderbilt. Now we just have to figure out how to get all his stuff back to Nashville.

It’s easier than you think to get everything there from California:

 1. Fly to Nashville on SW Airlines - you each can take 2 large suitcases and a carry-on for free. Stack them inside each other when you fly back - empty, put your clothes in one of the carry-on suitcases and leave one behind for them in the dorm room.
 2. Sign up for Amazon Prime - you get a year free once you have their student email address that ends in .edu. You can buy things like the televsion and fridge/microwave and have them shipped to their PO box at the school, it’s waiting for you when you arrive.
 3. Shop at home and ship things like bedding to their PO Box before you leave - these will be waiting for you too.
 4. Go to bed/bath beyond or container store in your home town. Buy the things they need and they will have them waiting for you at their Nashville store. Arrive a day early for move -in and just drive to the stores, pick up their things and store them in your hotel room for the night. There is a container store not far from campus.
 5. Be glad you have a son - you might be able to do most of this with just the suitcases:)

Thanks for the tips. I’ll be doing most of them. We have family in Atlanta so we’ll be sending things there and driving up to Nashville. The biggest problem is the 3 instruments - trumpet, flugelhorn and guitar. Thank goodness I don’t have to send a piano. : )

Go9ersjrh-- your final comment reminds me of a funny story…my D flew home this past Christmas on SW Air–a fellow Vandy student bought a seat on the plane for her $40,000 cello to occupy. (The music student, understandably, had a fit when the driver for the In-Shuttle van going to the airport suggested the instrument case be strapped to the roof of the van to leave more room in the van for students to sit.) So it could be worse :-)

LHSCary - Thanks for making me laugh. I can picture the students face.

Accepted!

College of Arts and Sciences, undecided

San Diegan

UW GPA: ~3.65
W GPA: ~4.00

SAT: 2250 (R-800, M-730, W-720)

Lots of ECs.

I thought my GPA was definitely going to bring me down but I guess what they say about holistic review is true!

Totally OT but there’s a professional bassist named Gary Karr who always buys a separate seat for his bass (it’s a priceless Amati). He was walking in the airport and heard on the loudspeaker “Will Mr. B. Fiddle please come to the courtesy desk?” When he went to the courtesy desk, they wanted to know if Mr. Fiddle wanted a kosher meal! Makes me laugh every time.

Back to EDs. And congrats to everyone who got in. My younger son applied RD to Vandy so we’re still in the waiting phase.

Got accepted! college of arts and sciences! Glad to see my new classmates on here!

Did anyone get their financial information from Vanderbilt yet? I haven’t gotten mine but got my acceptance letter. Kind of nerve wracking because I cannot afford the tuition unless I get financial aid…

Senior13… My daughter got hers in her acceptance letter. Did you submit CSS profile? Just call FA office tomorrow. They are really nice and helpful!

The problem is, I didn’t know about the CSS profile until yesterday and I completed mine today. However, I did do fafsa the first week of February. Do you think I will still be able to get financial aid even though I sent in my CSS profile today? I did do my fafsa earlier… I just didn’t know about the CSS profile… I’m afraid I won’t get any aid :(

You’ll get financial aid for sure. Just not any time soon. I mean, RD finaid apps were due on the fifth and we don’t get back any info until decisions come out.

BTMell, I enjoyed that story!

back to ED updates, warm wishes for each of you, including the class acts posting on this board who got disappointing news but were so gracious. To those of you looking elsewhere for your college home, Vandy is a wonderful college opportunity but no more wonderful than scores and scores of other opportunities and college communities.

re: the Gary Carr story.

It is an oldie but a goodie… however flying with a bass in a seat has not been possible for YEARS… here is a link to more of his stories about bass travel

My D is a bassist and we drove the 15 hours to get her to her audition for just that reason :)

And my daughter also auditioned on the Jan 26th date but wasn’t EDII. Glad to hear you heard So quickly!

Very cool! I hope for the best. Did you go to the dinner on Friday night?

I knew he’d been retired from touring for at least 10 years - his stories are pretty funny. We were lucky enough to see him perform twice when we lived in New Orleans. Amazing man and talent. Good luck to your daughter! My son is applying RD to the pre-med program.
