Vanderbilt Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@polyscidreamer The deposit is due on the 9th for students who were accepted in the first wave.

Honestly, they will probably come out next week after the 1st wave is all settled with.

I’ve been a straight A student but something very traumatic happened to be and as a result i will most likely receive one D this semester. will vanderbilt rescind my transfer admission decision if I explain my situation? all of my other grades are fine

I’m not questioning this at all (so not my place, and I hope all is well!) but they may wonder why only one grade dropped significantly… idk? @anatomygeek34

@Gatetransfer21 my other professors were much more understanding and this professor did not let me make up an exam that I had missed due to illness (which i have documentation for) and this destroyed my grade

@anatomygeek34 that really sucks. But I would agree with @Gatetransfer21 they will scratch their heads asking why the professor did not allow an exception if the illness was so bad. And if its this semester, arent finals going on now, meaning you still have the illness- or was this a mid-term? I think the type of illness- and class- are huge. If its not a hospitalization and involves a math or science course they will probably think you just didn’t know the material due to either a lack of effort or understanding and are bs’ing. Not indicting you, just thinking what they might think. And without knowing the particulars, this is a tough case to judge for anyone. The context here is vital. If you provide a little more info, I think it would help us understand how they may interpret this.

@PBMAX1 The course is biology 1. It was a really really really bad virus and I’m better now but I couldn’t make up my biology midterm even though I had a doctors note due to the fact I wasnt hospitalized. I can explain to them that my other professors were understanding which is why my only terrible grade is in this one class. None of my grades are like this at all.

They should understand. Definitely show the doctor’s note. If the timeline lines up they should let it go, but they wouldn’t give you credit for a D and they may ask you to retake the course this summer or promise to retake it at Vandy. Did you let the prof know they could rescind your offer? Or if you could do any extra credit? I don’t think a professor wants to know that he was the sole cause of you getting an offer rescinded. He/she MAY be willing to make some accommodation- Not saying it’s going to happen, but it’s certainly worth your effort. I would lobby the hell out of that person before the grade is posted.

Are you saying you didn’t take the mid-term at all, he was the only one not allowing a retake, and he gave you a 0? If that’s the case, they may think the professor was just unreasonable. Hope it works out for you. Let me know what happens. We may be fellow ‘Dores!

@pbmax1 yes I didnt take it but not because I didnt want to but because I physically couldnt I was so sick and I literally lost so much weight. Vanderbilt is my dream and I wouldnt want it to be jeopardized simply because of an illness and because one professor was a jerk. Do you think they’ll rescind me? This would absolutely kill me.

Under the circumstances, I do not believe they would rescind your offer. I would follow the steps that I outlined and wait until the final grade comes out before getting in touch with your admissions counselor. If you get a D, I would contact your Vandy counselor immediately and lay out all the evidence quickly. If you receive a C, I would not contact them, unless they contacted me first, so as not to make a big deal out of it. Some people would argue you should, but I don’t believe so for one C, assuming your other grades are high. By the way, this stuff happens ALL the time with an off-grade, so they are very used to it. I do think 1 out of 4 professors not allowing a retake, helps your case quite a bit!

Sorry you had to deal with that @anatomygeek34 Sounds like an awful time.

@anatomygeek34 Wow, that professor sounds like a real jerk (was gonna use something else but lets keep it family friendly lol). I think since you have very clear documentation for this you’ll be alright, but wow I can’t believe a professor did that. Definitely get into contact as soon as possible with Vandy and describe the situation

Any advice for future applicants?

@student101010101 Keep your college grades as high as possible and get involved. Do everything in your power to make sure you’ll have solid LORs and write great essays

Uploaded financial aid documents as required. Had to pick a category to upload them. The only choice that seemed valid was CSS Correction. It really wasn’t that, but did not know what else to pick.

I wonder if the second wave will be today.

im both impartial and scared - help ;-;

Hey you guys. I’m a Vanderbilt transfer applicant as well. I contacted my admissions counselor requesting an early read because I recently got accepted to a school that has a deposit deadline on May 15th. My Vanderbilt counselor got back to me this morning. She told me it’s not possible for me to get an early read, and that—hoo boy, this is a lot more tough to write out–the next wave of decisions will be released by the end of this month. So… :\

@hoothoot5 wow I was hoping for today, but I guess that will likely not happen.
