Vanderbilt Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

I got into Boston College! I was so shocked but suuuper happy! Where did you commit?

Hi everyone! Iā€™ve been checking this thread, but just thought Iā€™d join the conversation. I applied to Vandy at early march (before the deadline) but my last document (high school transcript) was received on 3/17. Do you think Iā€™ll be a part of first wave?

@transfergirl2020 ahh me too! I am so happy for us! how do you feel about BC?

@mlplover69 CONGRATS!! I feel really excited to have been accepted thereā€”I have heard really good things about their Lynch School of Education and Human Development, which is the one I applied to. I unfortunately didnā€™t get a chance to tour campus before the pandemic, but I donā€™t live too far so I went over yesterday and looked at the outside. Itā€™s so pretty  Definitely considering going there. But I am still waiting on Tufts and Vandy which also have really good programs for what I want to study and I really like the vibes of both. Plus Vandyā€™s location. What would you study at BC? Do you have a top choice?

Also, I decided to email my AO. I will let everyone here know what they say if I get a response.

Some of tufts came out yesterday fyi @transfergirl2020

Thanks for letting me know!! Just checked, but nothing yet

Hey congrats on your acceptance to BC. Though BC is not a good experience for me so far, I made great friends there (currently in MCAS) @transfergirl2020

@transfergirl2020 thats so awesome! i got into MCAS for psych! Ive been getting rejected from so many schools so i was SHOOK. I like the location and other elements of BC, but I am honestly so scared it is going to be like my last LAC, which I wasnā€™t a fan of :(. Was it really that pretty? omg <3

@vanessabrandon hey can you tell me why BC wasnt a good experience :frowning: i am also worried since i am a POC

@mlplover69 i also got accepted to BC as a transfer for MCAS but i really only applied in case i wanted to live closer to home, and i donā€™t think im going to end up going. however, i did also get accepted to BC back when i first applied to colleges in high school, and i got to do the admitted students day. one of my best friends attends BC now and iā€™ve also visited her there several times. weā€™re both POC and she and i both feel like you can find a community there. she is having a great time at BC, joined cultural clubs, and has lots of friends who are POC as well. however, everyoneā€™s experience is probably different, so donā€™t take what just one person says as what your life will be like at BC. iā€™d try to reach out to as many people who go to BC as you can to gain multiple perspectives!

@transfergirl2020 As a non-religious person, I found BC is very religious with a heavy curriculum. The meal plan is a pain too!

@ebeckins2020 thank you so much!

Be sure to look up transfer specific things to BC! My friend applied and transfers only get guaranteed housing for a year unlike other students who get 3 or 4ā€¦

I cannot believe Vandy decisions still havenā€™t started coming out yetā€¦ itā€™s not my top choice so idc at this point, but WOW, I think itā€™s the only school thatā€™s been keeping transfers in the dark for so long

What do they do with religion?

@Yankeefan20 @transfergirl2020 I am a current MCAS student at BC so I feel as if Iā€™d be able to answer this. Hopefully this helps: in my freshman dorm, there was a dorm minister that lived 2 doors away from me, Thereā€™s a prayer room in every common area, I passed by like 2-3 different churches on my way to classes everyday, and one of the RAā€™s in my dorm was the head of the Christianā€™s against drinking club (or something on the lines of that). Additionally the only club that the school funds is the pro-life group that hangs around the dining halls passing out flyers all the time. Going to church is a social event at BC and itā€™s almost seen as ā€˜weirdā€™ if you donā€™t go. Most of the kids that came from the surrounding area all went to Jesuit high schools. Maybe Iā€™m biased because Iā€™m atheist, but I felt like a fish out of water at BC this year. In all fairness, BC does have a relatively high freshman retention rate so it would seem like most of the people there are into that sort of thing, but if you arenā€™t coming from a religious background then itā€™s definitely something to think about.

Hi, guys, I am sorry I donā€™t have better news for you but my AO wrote back and said they do not have a date yet and ā€œhope to startā€ releasing decisions this month and will probably keep releasing into early June. :frowning: For those who Vanderbilt is a top choiceā€”do you think you will go ahead and put down a deposit at another school then if we still havenā€™t heard back from Vanderbilt? Doubting Iā€™ll get into Tufts lol, but BC asks for a deposit by June 1. Wouldnā€™t want to lose that spot but still have my heart set on Vandy! Lmk what others are planning to doā€¦

@transfergirl2020 - yah im pretty upset since this is awful for transfer students. i would suggest putting down a deposit

And thanks for sharing, @vanessabrandon, Iā€™m actually not Catholic either so Iā€™m wondering if I would feel out of place going to BC, but I know plenty of students who go there arenā€™t Catholicā€¦ And thanks, @ketchup23, I saw that BC only has guaranteed housing for transfers for only one year but I guess I will worry about that once I finally hear a no from Vanderbilt (and I mean, I hope thatā€™s not the case :))
