Vanderbilt Fraternities

I was thinking about rushing a Frat this year and I was just wondering how much hazing there is?/if anyone could give me a rough overview of the tiers of frats? Thanks

The pc answer is that none of the fraternities haze their pledges. As far as I know, only SAE has a national policy against any pledge programming. That will be effective this March after several unfortunate incidents at other universities where pledges either died or were seriously injured.
IMO, the ranking of fraternities is a silly exercise. Ask 100 students and you will get 100 different answers. They all tailgate, that all hold on campus parties, they all have multiple affiliations with several sororities, they all do “frat” stuff. One or two may seem to be more popular than another, but that may chance by the next week end. Visit them all with an open mind. Good Luck.

Pledgeship is vastly different at every fraternity, so there’s really no sense in generalizing. I can say that every fraternity man I know looks back on pledgeship fondly, whether or not they enjoyed the whole process at the time.

I believe I read somewhere that ZBT has a national policy eliminating a long pledging period similar to what SAE more recently adopted. Of course, I’m a mom so I am the least authority on this but Vandyman is correct, ranking fraternities & sororities is a “silly exercise” since every person is different and looking for different things and the reputation of one Greek organization on one campus or nationally is meaningless on another campus. Just visit the houses this fall, meet the people and make a decision based on YOUR experiences and opinion.
