Vanderbilt NROTC

I am going into my junior year if high school this year and it is almost time to start submitting my nrotc applications. I would like to attend either vanderbilt or duke on a full ride rotc scholarship, the catch is I want to have a tier 3 scholarship with the navy so I can study criminal justice. Here is some information about me

Academically I have a 5.0 weighted and 3.8 out of 4.0 unweighted GPA
This year I am taking:
Ap langauage, ap calculus ab, ap us history, Latin 1 hon, physics hon, Spanish 4 hon, ROTC 3.
I am the founder and club president of a model United Nations club at my school where I am planning many service opportunities
I am the captain of the varsity cross country team which I have now been on for 3 years
I am also on varsity track
I am the company commander in my ROTC unit
I am in national honor society
Spanish honor society
Interact club (service club)
I have 258 hous of community service
I take many ap courses and make straight A's
I am planning to score well on my SAT
What can I do to make not only my vanderbilt application as well as my tier 3 major for nrotc stand out?

Does either Vanderbilt or Duke offer free room and board for ROTC scholarship students? If not then neither will be a “Full Ride”.

It seems that you know that most of the NROTC scholarships go to Tier 1 & 2 applicants. I’m not sure there is anything you can do to make your criminal justice major “stand out”. It is what it is. However, SOME Tier 3 applicants will receive a scholarship…why not you? Your stats/profile look good, however you will really need to do well on the SAT/ACT to improve your chances.

Good Luck!

The best way to get a Tier 3 NROTC scholarship is to major in a foreign language, with a regional emphasis. It is called the LREC program (Laguage Regional Emphasis Cultural awareness). This might allow you to minor in criminal justice, or perhaps double major. Otherwise, keep doing great academically and aim to maximize your physical fitness scores.

Also, are you sure that you want Navy and not Marine Corps. The Marine Option NROTC scholarship does not have the three tiers. You can pretty much major in whatever you want.

Vanderbilt provides an extra $6000/year to all ROTC Scholarship recipients. This is not enough to cover room and board but it helps.
