Vanderbilt or Emory EDII?

<p>I'm looking to either go to Emory or Vanderbilt, and I plan on majoring in business admin/econ/accounting. </p>

<p>Here are my stats</p>

<p>Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.90</p>

<p>Weighted GPA: 4.61 (from IB/AP classes)</p>

<p>ACT Score: 33 (34 English, 33 math, 35 reading, 32 science)</p>

<p>Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 11/222 of a prestigious northeastern school</p>

<p>AP (place score in parenthesis): AP World History (4), AP U.S History (5), AP Latin (4), </p>

<p>Senior Year Course Load: 4 AP classes, 3 honors.</p>

<p>Awards: AP Scholar, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society</p>

<p>Extracurriculars: Varsity football (9,10,11,12), National Honor Society (11,12), Math Honor Society (10,11,12), Pirate Nation (9,10,11,12), Knights of Setonia Liturgical Society (9,10,11,12), Basketball (9,10)</p>

<p>Volunteer/Community service: Tutor students in Latin and math, volunteer for the Pittsburgh Project (rebuilt homes for the impoverished), ambassador for my school, run a gift collection program for kids that would not normally receive christmas presents, and a sunday school teaching assistant</p>

<p>Essays: Common App was very good, relating a photograph and a personal growth experience. </p>

<p>Teacher Recommendation: Both were amazing, very personalized. </p>

<p>Counselor Rec: Go to a large private school, but very good.</p>

<p>Additional Rec: Extremely good recommendation from a counselor, saying I was a leader among my peers.</p>

<p>State (if domestic applicant): New Jersey</p>

<p>School Type: Private</p>

<p>Ethnicity: Caucasian </p>

<p>Gender: Male</p>

<p>Income Bracket: >300k</p>

<p>Strengths: SAT/GPA/Rank/Aps (I think I’m pretty good for the most part when it comes down to numbers), Volunteer activities </p>

<p>Weaknesses: not many national awards, lack of extensive work experience, ethnicity, or definite leader positions</p>

<p>I’m not too sure. I love the enthusiasm that Vanderbilt students have and the very social, athletic vibe of the school. However, I like the more academic driven Emory feel as well. When it comes down to it, I would like to go to Vanderbilt, but I’m not sure how well I would fare in the acceptance/denial EDII outcome.</p>

<p>If you have to ask whether you should apply early decision or not, don’t do it!
You don’t want to regret anything or spend years thinking “What if I would have been accepted at [insert name here] instead? I would have gone there instead…”</p>

<p>I agree with the above poster. If you are seriously in doubt, don’t do something that you will (Possibly) regret later.</p>

<p>Vandy and Emory are both well-ranked for buisness. Have you done the campus visit for both? If so, which one (Vanderbilt or Emory) made you feel at home, and captured your attention? If the answer, either Emory or Vanderbilt, is obvious, then you should choose the school and apply ED. Otherwise,apply RD. You seem to be a strong applicant. I am confident that you will succeed RD. Write stellar essays.</p>

<p>You know, its which school is the best fit. (For me, it is Tufts University. EDII Applicant this year. Fingers Crossed! :))</p>

<p>I think Emory is much more diverse than Vanderbilt if that matters to you. Atlanta and Nashville both seem like great cities.</p>

Actually, Vanderbilt doesn’t have an undergraduate business school or program, while Emory does. However, it is true that Vandy and Emory are both well-ranked for GRADUATE business programs. If you do choose Vandy, there economics major is probably your best bet as a business-like major.</p>

<p>Seems like your credentials are good enough for either school. If you want to go to Vanderbilt, then don’t worry if you don’t get in. It’s worth trying.</p>
