Vanderbilt over Hopkins for pre-med?

Why should I choose Vanderbilt over Hopkins? Please talk me into it! Vanderbilt seems like much more fun, but I need the grades and to pass the mcat.

Why would you choose Hopkins if you would rather go to Vanderbilt?

JHU is well know for grade deflation and pre-med students need to have high GPA’s to get in meds school. Vandy’s average GPA is about 0.1 higher.

If you have the test scores to get into Vandy and JHU the MCAT will be like any other standardized test you have aced since first grade.

If you will be happy at Vandy go there because happy students do better in school.

Your experience at Hopkins will be way more one-dimensional than your experience at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt will afford you basically the same opportunities as Hopkins, and you will also actually enjoy your time in college.

Also, you should consider that you may find that you do not want to go to medical school after all. If you change your mind, Vandy is a very well-rounded school and you will have a lot of other options available to you.

Nashville is way more conducive to your mental health, leisure life and general well being. Vanderbilt is extremely diverse and demanding. Isn’t Vanderbilt also more selective? Where did you get the idea Hopkins would be better for the long run for premed? (not)

Hopkins has more Federal research money and a number one Biomedical Engineering program…so shop your program if you are lucky enough to know exactly what you want to study for four years already.

if you want to do premed in an arts and sciences college, Vandy and JH are peers. JH has the edge in International studies/Public Policy and I believe they have a strong English dept for writers…but Vandy has a good writing program as well.

Vandy has grad schools all around campus…very nice additional dimension to undergrad life.

You can try for Hopkins for med school. However those I know in Vandy Med love the place…
