Vanderbilt Parents

And your son may already have requested (back when taking this year’s exams) that his one free report be sent to Vanderbilt. That’s what my daughter did – I don’t think there’s anything else we need to do.

My question was about AP exams he took last year. He did not send one to Vanderbilt.

I believe all of the scores from any AP test he has ever taken will be sent on one report.

But my son did not send any report to Vanderbilt, not even the one he took this year. So if we don’t send one now, they will have no record of any AP scores.

Just go to the College Board website and request that his AP scores be sent to Vanderbilt. I believe the report will contain scores from all the APs that he has taken throughout high school. It will be one price. Not sure how much they charge. Probably similar to what they charge to send SAT scores. My daughter requested her one free report be sent to Vanderbilt when the scores are available. If your son didn’t request this free report when he took the tests, you will have to pay to have the report sent.

Vanderbilt doesn’t have any of my D’s scores yet either. I don’t know how scores will affect registration. Registration takes place before scores are released.

I know how to request the AP scores from the College Board. That is not my question. I am stating my original question below (thanks for being patient with me!)
if DS orders all his AP scores to be sent to Vanderbilt and later decides that he does not want to waive a particular class with an AP score and want to take the class at Vanderbilt instead, does it look bad to have that particular AP score on his record? If graduate or medical schools see that he “repeats” the class that he scored a 5 on AP, does that look bad?

I don’t believe it would ever look bad to have a high credit-worthy AP score on his record – regardless of whether he decides to “repeat” that course in college, particularly if he then continues taking higher-level courses in that subject. Sounds like he should be proud of his scores!

Our daughter’s scores will not get to Vanderbilt until later this summer either, but she is just planning to tell her advisor about the relevant ones from last year when they speak prior to registration, assuming he or she will have to authorize placement into a higher level class. As for this year’s scores, she’ll just have to guess how she did and register accordingly, understanding that she may need to make changes later in the summer. At least, that’s how we think it works!

4beardolls, colleges often have access to standardized test scores through the high school transcript that was submitted as part of the admission application (and through the final transcripts sent after graduation). That information may be enough for placement when planning his schedule this summer. For example, if he has passed Calculus AB as a junior, the advisor will allow placement in the next class. Confirmation of the placement will be entered when the official College Board report is received. I know Vanderbilt uses PeopleSoft and that system would allow someone who doesn’t have a prerequisite completed to be flagged and dropped if there isn’t a reason for an override. I’m sure the advisors who deal with freshmen see this frequently and they’ll be able to help your son.

Back on the discussion about return flights to N’ville after Christmas break–if things are the same as they have been in the recent past and you have a daughter interested in sorority rush, she will need to be back in time for that, probably Friday, Jan. 2. My daughter has always wanted to leave to come home the day after exams are over so that she doesn’t have to worry about laundry and packing until after she is finished with her last exam. A helpful tip–have your child look into In-Shuttle (website: inshuttle.com) as a way to get back and forth from campus to the airport. Much cheaper than a taxi (unless you are sharing the ride), fairly flexible as to the times for pick up, will pick up at a few locations on Commons, and has been very reliable over the years. Your student can make the reservation online but must be 12 hours in advance.

Thank you for that tip re returning on Jan. 2 for rush. Had not realized!

I thought I read that Vandy provides free shuttles to and from the airport before/after a break. I assume this doesn’t apply if a student is coming back earlier than the day before classes. My daughter is planning on returning to Vandy on Saturday following Thanksgiving. Airfare was much more expensive on the Sunday. She can go to the football game. May have to change the flight now for Xmas. My daughter thinks she wants to join a sorority. FYI, I rebooked the Christmas trip and got a $40 credit on Southwest … They are having a “sale”. The flight has dropped to slightly under $500 for the short flight to/from Tampa. Still far from a bargain. I will keep checking.

Oh, and I always book the Southwest flights as one way trips. That way if the price of one leg goes down, it is easy to change. And if a last minute change is needed, you don’t have to pay the difference on the round trip … Just the one way. Can make a big difference.

There is a free Vandy shuttle but I think my daughter said it books up quickly and the times are not always convenient (might not run on way back after break?) so it is good to know about alternatives. You may want to double check the dates for rush this school year but in the past rush for girls has started prior to beginning of second semester.

Thanks, @LHSCary. I did take a look at the calendar, and the first 2015 event appears to be on Monday, Jan. 5 (PH recruitment meeting) does that seem like it would be the first thing, or do you recall that they add more in later, perhaps for earlier that weekend?

Should I buy the Full or the Twin size Novaform memory foam mattress topper. from Costco .

lovingasiandad - Buy the twin size mattress topper. All the beds are twins.

The beds are actually some awkward size between twin and twin XL.

That’s interesting. So for regular bed sheets, should we buy twin or twin XL?

I bought regular twin sheets and they worked fine with a mattress topper.
