Vanderbilt Regular Decision Thread

Saw that there was none for regular decision

Do ya’ll think being a “Vandy Fan For a Day” will help?

@neuroman Vanderbilt says that it does not consider interest, so theoretically they do not care. I went to PreVU over the summer. It may help, but you never know.

Hey guys! I’ve applied to Vandy RD. Goodluck to everyone applying!!!

Anyone have any idea when Vandy will release decisions for RD?

I think they say April 1. Maybe they will release last week of March for RD? Maybe on April 1?

Most of the elites say late March or ‘by’ or ‘around’ April 1. Since April 1 is a Sunday, I’m guessing everyone will hear no later than Friday Mar-30. But that is just a hunch, no inside scoop.

I believe the portal was updated on March 28th last year. Also the small percentage of students awarded the merit scholarships such as the CV receive notification earlier in March.

I read that someone’s son received a CV notification letter randomly in the mail last mid February.

My friend got his CV acceptance early March.

Glad to hear CV recipients might hear early and that everyone might hear by March 28. In fact, for those trying to read between the lines, their website under school visits say the admissions office is closed Wednesday Mar-28. That adds to the theory. We decided not to go on a road trip of elite schools. I didn’t want to take my son on a tour of places he might not get into and that I couldn’t afford anyway. I just figured if he got accepted to one with a nice scholarship, we would immediately hop in the car and go visit. Since he has a school break Mar 28 - Apr 2, that would be perfect timing.

@2KansasKids that is smart. I am visiting the elite schools the week all the decisions come out, so that is going to be great or awful.

I am “confused” as to why you would be visiting the “elite” schools during decision week. Wouldn’t it be wiser to save your travel $ and time to attend Accepted Student Days in April for your top choices? One of my sons completely changed his mind after Accepted Student Day at Vandy (he did have a merit offer in hand) and called his other admissions and let them go, including further competition April weekends ( a couple of his admit schools had him coming for finalist weekends in April for merit scholarship consideration). These sorts of last minute finalist weekends are awfully hard on seniors as you are expected to show up and be further evaluated before $ decisions are made. Grateful that Vandy doesn’t not drag this process out. That said, seems like you should be conserving your energy to deal with the doors open to you. And organized Admitted Student Days are a great way to go. My advice is to stay open-hearted. April can put things into perspective.

@Faline2 Thank you for that advice! I am already near the Ivy leagues for an admitted student day for another school, so I thought why not visit since I am in the northeast? Do you recommend going back for an admitted student day if I get in? My April is fairly busy with Prom and school trips.

April is a super demanding month for seniors. If you are already admitted to a school near the Ivies, and are going to a designated day for admitted students there, I see why you would swing by your Ivy hopeful campuses
if you have never seen them. It isn’t necessary to go to admitted student days unless you are on the fence. In all likelihood, every college that admits you is deserving of your deposit. Definitely use this time to study your long term budget and to get more personally acquainted with your final colleges online (their newspapers
the webpages for your potential majors and minors). One thing that I think isn’t important is “overnights”. I think they are unreliable and also exhausting as seniors would be better off staying rested for their last weeks of high school. This is just an anecdotal opinion on my part. But college upperclassmen are so busy! They can be lousy hosts or fantastic hosts but either way
the college itself should not be judged based on the first five students you meet or shadow. More than likely you can totally make your own way in a college and your experience may not resemble that of student hosts at all. You can do just as well sitting in the libraries during peak study hours and simply observing or dining solo here and there on campus, and if possible attending a class quietly.

This is another reason to do your homework Junior year and have a smaller list come fall of senior year. We did 1 safety (local state school), 4 good fits (semi-selective top regional schools) and 4 elites. And even then I think we have a bit too much going on with all the Senior year activities. I wish we had done more homework/research/visits Junior year and cut that down one or two in each category, or possibly picked one for ED.
