Feeling crushed and I don’t even want to look at tomorrow’s Ivy decisions

Waitlisted. 1550 SAT, 4.5 GPA, leadership roles, 11 APs, unique political extracurriculars. Third waitlist of the week :frowning: Not really sure what more colleges want from me. I’m DREADING tomorrow

Just notified that I also got into the Clark Scholars Program! Has anyone else received any information on it? Sounds quite interesting

Accepted!! 33 ACT, 4.57 GPA, varsity baseball and football captain. I think good essays. Honestly really surprised I’m looking on here at students who are so much more accomplished than I am and I realize that the admissions process makes no sense.

@nb000791 nice to see that acceptance with the sports! Can I ask if you are legacy or 1st generation or URM? Congrats!!!

Waitlisted… pretty bummed but two cause from my school got in earlier for scholarships and MOSAIC, so I expected not an acceptance. Congrats to all

Can somebody post their rejection letter? I actually took a minute to read mine and this is the nicest rejection letter I’ve gotten thus far. I just want to know if it’s personal or not.

@uncreativename Congratulations. Were you accepted into the Engineering school? The Clarks scholars program is a fairly new, prestigious program that is primarily for engineers , but I guess can also be for other stem majors. I believe this upcoming year will be the 2nd year that this program is being offered at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has a nice video with more details. Only 10 students per class are in the program. This program is currently being offered at about 9 universities. My daughter is being considered for this program at another university.

@CU1986 Thanks, congratulations to your daughter as well! Yes, I was accepted into the School of Engineering. I didn’t know there was a video, I’ll have to find it and check it out.

Another waitlist.

“According to the 2017-18 common data set, Vandy took 178 students off the wait list. But they don’t list how many were offered or accepted a spot. But I think that’s actually a pretty large number.”

It varies from year to year, but as compared to many other schools, Vandy uses its wait list a lot. Last four cycles, Vandy admitted 210, 188, 71 and 178 kids off the wait list. Since the frosh class is about 1,600 seats, those are pretty big numbers. Vandy puts a lot of kids on the wait list, but then works it pretty hard to track which kids are moving on (as many do) and which remain interested in Vandy.

FYI, using the wait list like this (similar to ED) is a great way for the school to keep its reported yield high and its admit rate low.
