Vanderbilt Regular Decision Thread

Yeah, like @NoahBarboza said, March 28th is Ivy Day so all the Ivies will come out that day, perhaps not the exact same moment but around the same time.

I know academics is not centered around the Christian calendar, but releasing the 28th makes sense with the next day being the start of Easter weekend. And if that is purely coincidental, it is at least convenient.

Vanderbilt starts accepting kids in January for RD. They start to float acceptances to see what type of reaction they get so they know how many RD admits to give out at the end of April. Has helped their ranking tremendously. But yes, there will be another day of RD acceptances.

@Living61, I have been following Vandy admissions since spring of 2002 and I’m not aware of RD acceptances going out before the March release date with very few exceptions - top scholarship winners (CV, Ingram, etc.) and MOSAIC invites, maybe a few others. Those few early RD admits pale in comparison to the number of students who have applied. It’s my understanding that the overall number of applications this year is pretty much the number of students who applied when my oldest did (if I’m remembering correctly) + 20,000 which makes for a really big number competing for the same number of spots in the class that were available for my kids back in the day.

You are probably right @2VU0609 . But that means at my high school, several white Jewish kids are a part of MOSAIC, which, I guess, they could be.

MOSAIC isn’t all under-represented minorities. I don’t know how they identify the targeted kids because I have noticed a wide variety of kids identifying themselves as MOSAIC invites in the threads related to this topic through the years.

Any word on when decisions are going to come out?

@2VU0609 I just got back from MOSAIC and the dean said they pick kids for MOSAIC based on whether they see diversity, social activism, inclusion in their apps. He said they sent out 600 invites this year.

@thesoutherngirl did they say anything about RD decision dates?

When I called, they said it would be the 28.

Congrats @thesoutherngirl for being invited to MOSAIC. I hope you enjoyed your time on campus. Vandy continues to work hard to meet their diversity goals as evidenced in this recent letter from the Interim Dean of A&S (I linked this in another thread, but it’s worth posting again). They have certainly changed the campus culture in the last 20 years. https://view.exacttarget.com/?qs=0abfcbf55e40f1c65f13d07cee0a20adce020aef5ddc4c2f17d5b197c9a7b20ebec6e1fba0feceed343d709737af49d1c0e16842914501ff8af53147413024565848e84a8dcf1fab6add30ed61c76cfa

I would assume I’m diverse (I’m african american and disabled) and I talked a lot about social activism on my application. I wasn’t invited to MOSAIC, does this mean I was probably rejected?

@cfranklin0920 I wouldn’t assume that, if it’s true that only 600 people were invited to MOSAIC then I would have to think not every diverse or activism-focused applicant gets invited. Don’t worry, I’m sure if they liked your app you’ll get in with or without MOSAIC.

@cfranklin0920 No, not getting an invite to MOSAIC is not an indicator of a rejection. A lot of the MOSAIC hosts (current Vandy students) had not gotten an invite to MOSAIC when they were applying, and obviously everything still worked out for them. Good luck!!

I think it’s safe to say, we’ve reached the worst part of the waiting. I just hope the wait for Vandy, (or any other Ivy Day school,) will be worth it.

9 days!!!

I just found this thread, and my daughter got her admittance email at the weekend and the letter yesterday
